How to change a bed in only 8 hours...

7:00 - Strip bed, pile bedding in hallway. Rest for a half hour. Let husband bring bedding to basement.

7:30 - Go downstairs and start blanket load. Go back upstairs, rest for an hour.

8:30 - Go back downstairs, put blankets in dryer, start sheet load. Go back upstairs, rest for an hour.

9:30 - Go back downstairs, discover blankets are still damp, remove one blanket and re-start dryer. Go back upstairs, rest for an hour.

10:30 - Go back downstairs, remove blanket from dryer and replace with other blanket. Go back upstairs, rest for a half hour.

11:00 - Fix and eat lunch.

11:30 - Go back downstairs, remove blanket, put sheets in dryer, start bedspread load. Go back upstairs with blankets, watch news, take nap.

1:30 - Go back downstairs, remove sheets from dryer, put bedspread in dryer, turn off water to washer. Bring sheets upstairs, rest a half hour.

2:00 - Put sheets and blankets on bed, put pillowcases on pillows, rest a half hour.

2:30 - Go back downstairs, bring bedspread upstairs, put bedspread on bed.

3:00 - Cry

Oh my goodness! All that going up and down the stairs would wear me out. I'm sorry this is such a long process for you. I can relate to some of it as I have to go to the laundry room to do my laundry now. It is exhausting but at least it all gets done at one time.

Have a good cry as you deserve it. The fatigue we get is so frustrating, to say the least.:hug:

Oh dear blessings, can't family help with that chore? That is way too much work.

Moving your washer and dryer upstairs would help. I was going to do that but DD does mine with no complaints and I have such a little bit.

Yes, Sally, Mr. Blessings usually does the up-and-down for me--in fact, he does about half the laundry. He wasn't feeling well today, so I just decided "Oh well, it will take me all day, but I'll git 'er done."

We have a place to put the washer and dryer upstairs, but it would take some remodeling--almost as tiring as the current plan!

It just struck me that the household chores to which I never gave a second thought have become one-a-day projects. Poo.

Once I got upstairs or downstairs I would forget what I was supposed to do

it seems to me that it might be easier if you just bought new sheets (just kidding!)

as someone who has stairs, I give you my full sympathy...but good for you for stepping up (&down, &up, &down) for getting it all done. Way to go my friend

I could not do that many stairs in one day. im so thankful I live in a ranch. Laundry in the kitchen, and a husband who is trained. I would get upstairs and wander till I remembered why I was there.

Blessings2You 05-02-2012 07:21 AM

Yup, my husband is trained, also. But he does half the laundry, all of the vacuuming, the dishes, the trash, the cat boxes, the carrying of groceries, the lawn, the snow, the chickens, and MUCH more...plus he's 76 and has COPD, a frozen shoulder and other medical issues...

So I do what I can, and what I can't waits until another day. Or week. Or month.

There are days that just one trip up and down stairs (or down and up in our case) is pretty daunting. Other days, I can make a few. If I don't do anything else.

Now I've had a night's sleep and a shower, and yesterday's gone. I was pretty frustrated that it took me all day to change the bed, though. I knew I'd be like this some day, but I thought I'd be 90.

If I did all of those stairs in one day, I'd be jerking and flopping like a fish all night!
