being treated for brain aneurysm

I am currently a candidate for a pipeline stent. I was diagnosed with my brain aneurysm in Jan 2012. I was sent to a hospital in St Louis, Mo. to have the procedure.

It was not successful because the surgeon said he tried twice & there was blood flow problems. That procedure was done with access through my groin.

I am being sent back later this month to get the procedure done with access through the artery in my arm; which the surgeon claims is more appropriate for my aneurysm.
My aneurysm is a 0.7 basilar with a bulge on both sides and a wide opening that leads to my cartoid artery. I am 68 yrs old and have had alot of anxiety regarding this procedure.
Does anyone out there have a similiar situation? I am scheduled for surgery on May 24th. Also I checked and the Pipeline stent was developed in Menlo Park, Ca. My partner disputes this & says it was developed in New York; can anyone clarify this.
My surgeon claims that he has done over 100 of these procedures & teaches all over the U.S. I weas very disappointed when I awoke after the first two procedures and was told it was too risky.

Hi belladona and welcome to NeuroTalk. I can't help you with your questions regarding the treatment for your aneurysm but you have posted your questions in the right forum. Hopefully someone will come along with helpful information. I'm sorry for your understandable anxiety. :grouphug:

Hey there!..I had a stint in my head for a wile after my brain-surgery.It was put in because my brain was swelling so as to relieve pressure. I think it was in for just a day or two, I'm not real sure because it was a couple years ago and things were a little foggy in the hosp. I had a line from the stint that went back into my heart through the vein,..not really sure but it didn't really bother me that much,.actually I felt relieved to have it in,..sounds funny I know but it suited the purpose,..like I said, I never really noticed it was in until I literally ran my hand along the tube to see where it was leading to,.then they just told me not to pull on it real hard.I was asleep or sedated when they removed it.,,..I don't know if that helps you or not ( I hope it does). I'd do it again if I needed to,..It did help save my life afterall. tnx
