cervical nerve root block?

Hi everyone. Has anyone had a cervical root nerve block to treat RSD? and if so did it help and how long did relief last? (when 1st diagnosed had series of sympathetic blocks but that was few years ago. my RSD is generalized now)
thanks. momof4

I can't see why a cervical root block would be done; I am assuming this to be a selective nerve root block that you are describing. It is usually done for a compressed nerve root, such as for a lateralized disc herniation, bone spur/hypertrophy, etc. with root compression. A SGB would be more the traditional approach for RSD, I would think, as the sympathetic chain lies outside of the spinal canal on the lateral to anterolateral part of the vertebral body with the stellate ganglion up against Chassig's (lazily guessing on the spelling without looking it up) tubricle. A SNRB is aimed right into the neural foramin.

Dubious,
I got RSD after a nerve impingement. I know the block is to help with impingement pain but I wasnt sure if it would cover the RSD. After the stellate blocks I am considered sympathetic independent pain so i wasnt sure if a cervical block would help RSD at all. I have had RSD for 3years now and my short term memory is getting terrible. Normally my husband goes in with me to appointments but my son took me this time. I'll have to call the Dr. I just hate feeling dumb. momof4

Well then, given your unique history, I would then consider the thought of a cervical root block. Although nothing is without risks, that kind of procedure is on the lower end of the spectrum, (interlaminar being safer than selective nerve root block) for adverse events and it may prove to be of some value as well!

Funny (odd) what you say about short term memory...I find myself scanning for the right words sometimes and I rely ever so heavily on spell check now, which I never did before....
