Pressure in ears after hitting head
I hit my head on a table on Monday morning, about 60 hours ago, and I've had pressure in both ears since then. I am a hypochondriac, I will tell you straight up. Could there be anything wrong with me?
|
Probably not. There are lots of benign reasons for a feeling of pressure in the ears.
Have you tried chewing gum to see if the jaw movement helps normalize your ears? An anti-histamine can also help if your ear pressure is from a histamine reaction. Ask a pharmacist for a recommendation. I use chlorpheniramine maleate. It is sold as Chlortrimeton and many other names. It is over the counter in the US. . |
I had ear pain and pressure about a week after I was hit. I went to an ENT who did an exam and performed a hearing test, but couldn't find anything wrong. The pain went away after about 2 weeks. Still not sure what caused it, but it hasn't returned thankfully.

I went to the ER last night. They look at my eyes, had me follow their finger, felt my head, looked in my ears, etc., but didn't run any tests. They said that it is probably allergies because there was no blood on my ear drum and nothing was found in the other tests they did. It hasn't stopped, however, even after taking the medication they gave me for it. Could it be something else or am I just being a hypochondriac?
|
Anyone? It's been four and a half days since this happened now, but I'm still worried about it.

You are just being a hypochondriac. It can take time for ears to settle down. The doctor cleared you of anything to worry about.
Relax. You may actually not have anything different about your ears. A symptom of concussion can be a hypersensitivity to a single sensation. Your brain may just be overly focused on ear sensation. The anxiety issues, such as hypochondria, and a myriad of other obsessions and anxieties can be the most prominent symptom of concussion. It may take a week or even a few months for your brain to start to settle down. If this is your worst symptom, consider yourself extremely fortunate. My best to you. |
