Second Lumbar block

Ok so I did my second shot yesterday. I don't know but I feel like burning has been coming back. this sucks. Im starting to think these blocks are not working. I still feel kinda better then when I first got diagnosed in Jan 2012 but I'm not sure. Getting little discouraged here. Has this happened to any one? Thanks

This happens to a lot of people. I personally didn't get much relief at all from the blocks (pretty much only that they stopped my leg from getting ice cold for several months). But if you are noticing a difference in the burning pain (lower at all) then it still may be encouraging. Some people have said that it was after their third one that they really felt the relief. Sometimes it's just that the spot may not be QUITE right. And unfortunately sometimes they just don't help some people. There are probably other things that it could be too. But it doesn't sound like you should give up hope quite yet. Definitely discuss it with the doctor and see what they think. You don't HAVE to continue the blocks if you don't want to...but maybe your doctor will have some ideas about how to get better results.

I just think its weird cause when I got hurt it was my foot and it traveled to my thigh. The thigh seemed to get better but it seems after this injection the burning has come back. I go back next week to check in with doctor.

Were you awake for the procedure? Did the doc use your feedback to pinpoint the location for the block?

I had stellate ganglion blocks done both ways. 1) Pain doc who performed them routinely. I'm fairly sure it was not a guided procedure. These were very hit or miss--some I got a few weeks relief from, some no more than a day. 2) Ex spine surgeon who treated it more like a surgical procedure than a "shot" and I usually received 2-3 weeks relief. Some people keep having them for years...

All blocks are not created equal.

Different meds can be tried as well.

Many docs use them as a diagnostic tool--they'll be happy with a day's relief...
