questions about the dentist??
 

Hello all..
I am new to this site and there is do much info I have a question about going to the dentist...I have just been diagnosed with RSD and am on my way to the cleveland clinic...anyone know how that is?? also I have a cap coming lose can we still go to the same dentist ?? Is this an issue also...thanks for any input

My doctor suggested I have any extensive work done under an epidural.

My dentist is pretty pain free so I've been doing minor stuff just under a local. I'm more afraid of the needle than what he'll do. I may be taking a chance.

Take precautions..
 

I had dental work done and my dentist had read up on CRPS first .. He gave me the choice of nitrus oxide (laughing gas) or Atavan prior to the procedure and he froze me realy well before and after the procedure as well.

I had no lasting problems although I noticed it took a long time for the hole to heal over.

Good luck and do your research first.. I called around before I settled on a dentist who was interested enouph to do his own research, though I was bringing him in my own information.

Be cautious about dental work
 

I would be very cautious about dental work. Each time I go for dental work ( which is not often) I always must go to my dental pain specialist afterwords. Even a minor filling triggered off facial pain within about 6 hrs. I had to get Trigger point ing in my face for weeks after that little procedure.
Then when I had extractions - I had constant pain many days afterward. Fortunately, my dental pain Dr. knew exactly what to do. He gave me injections directly into my gums where the teeth were extracted. It took about 5 treatments and the pain was gone.
I see many patients in my pain dentist's office. What they do is get the dental work done first in the AM and then come to him in the PM for injections so nothing (hopefully) happens from the dental work.
Just my thoughs from my experience and that of others. Do you have a dentist who deals in pain management and can do follow up injections.
Oh - be very cautious of root canals. I could write a book on those. So many people in the office have permanent pain from those .Research shows 10 % of people will have some type of pain which may becom permanent from root canals. My dentist told me that last week. It supposedly is the current research. Good luck.

wow...well I hate the dentist and I hate needles :-) I was just diagnosed with this in feb....I just have a cap that is loose right now but I am now really afraid to go to the dentist..LOL I just hope the cap does not come loose what about cleanings??? This RSD is a trip. Thank you for all of the input...HUGS

Good luck. I hope they caught it early.

Don't despair. There are good times still, they're just harder to find. The prognosis is usually good if caught early. If not then it's said the pain fades in time if you can avoid further injury.
