Neurologist?

I am in the middle of a worker's comp case and although I have so many symptoms of RSD, when I mentioned it to my surgeon(worker's comp appointed) at the last visit, he released me by the way, he acted like he had seen a ghost! I would like to see a doctor of my choice and get properly diagnosed but I don't know how to go about it. Anyone have any suggestions?

Find a good reputable neurologist in your area...hopefully one that knows alot about rsd and will recognize it asap. Sounds like your WC doc knew exactly what you had (but remember he gets bonuses to get you back to work quick;.). I have been through the wc "loops" over the past several years so I know firsthand how they work. Mine wanted to send me back to work full duty when I could not even walk. He said the xray was "normal" but I was unable to bear any weight on it and was in agony with the pain growing worse with each day. After I insisted he not discharge me he gave me another week to see how it went and I never made it that long. I wound up in the ER and on crutches and never went back to work again. I was lucky my doc had pain mgmt experience and I was immediately diagnosed 10 days after my injury. Get to a good doc quick and don't let them tell you otherwise that nothing is wrong. I have learned to be my best advocate as I know my body and know when something is drastically wrong. Best of luck and hang in there. I would look into iv's of natural vitamins/minerals...that and God is the only thing that has healed me after several years of this monster. I am happy to say I have not taken ANY medicine or sleep aids in over a week and a half and am loving my new life now. Don't give up hope.
Take care,
kathy d

I'm not sure what the laws are in your area but I would suggest getting a good work comp lawyer in addition to what kathy said about getting to a good doctor. The lawyer should be able to petition the courts for you to see another doctor and can work with work comp to get approvals. They can also advise you on the laws in your state. I know in Illinois we can choose our own doctor but we have a limited number of choices. There are also many doctor's offices that will require approval from work comp before even allowing you to SCHEDULE an appointment. Having an attorney can help speed this process up because with RSD time is of the essence. If you can find a lawyer with experience handling cases with RSD that is a good idea too.

in ny its the same.. YOU!! choose a dr. as long as they accept comp. and you move forward from there. And make sure you have an atty. spec. if you have no experience as your own advocate. even with an atty comp will play games to make it seem as you are cracked so they no longer have to cover you or even strong arm you into corners .. atty,s help take those corners. just make sure you keep a running file all to you. test results scripts, IME appt,s mileage etc. plus a pain journal helps.. its hard I keep forgetting but it will help you see your progression and also help in court.
