How much prednisone for how long before thymectomy?

for those of you who had a thymectomy, did you stay at a high level of prednisone for a long time until you were stable and then get it or did you get out of crisis, and get the thymectomy soon after? I know there are two schools of thought, one is to stay stable for 4 - 6 weeks at a high prednisone level then taper for a couple months, the other is to get the operation as soon as you get rid of the symptoms with prednisone. Im trying to decide what to do. Ive gone up to 60 mg a day and am feeling pretty good. I do have a thymoma. I don't know that i want to be on prednisone for six weeks and then spend months tapering back down to 10 mg for surgery ( I do know taper has to be slow and controlled though.)
When you had yours, how much prednisone were you still on? Did you stay stable at a high dose for several weeks before or taper as soon as you got rid of symptoms? Thanks for any thoughts
