rsd/crps featured on my local news
 

My local news station did a feature on rsd/crps. It featured a young girl named Jessica. Unfortunately the newscasters did not seem to "get it" because at the end of the segment they said this should be a reminder for all parents to have their children and themselves use tick repellant- as if the disease is caused by ticks. Thanks for posting that. I couldn't get the video to play but the written part there at the link you posted is actually pretty good. I think they do a pretty good job of portraying how painful and agonizing RSD can be.

I read the article and it was a good article overall. I am not sure whether the tick bite really had anything to do with her RSD. But I am putting a comment on their website. Thanks for sharing.

It is very possible that the tick bite followed by lyme disease was the trigger for CRPS. Heaven knows it doesn't take much to start a case of CRPS.

As the understanding (or misunderstanding) of CRPS is truly in it's infancy, I won't fault the station for focusing on the tick bite.

It did focus on the painful symptoms, which was good...................

Newbie to the forum, but have had RSD/CRPS for more than 16 years.

While my RSD was caused by a botched surgery, I do know about Jessica's case (the girl the story was about), she first began having symptoms shortly after she got the tick bite. I've heard of many cases of RSD/CRPS starting from something as simple, or "minor" as that.

When I did the coma in Mexico I became familiar with lots of different cases. Hope this helps clear things up, and yeah, the take away message was weird but at least they are giving RSD some publicity, hopefully it will pressure researchers into finding more options for us.

What wasn't shown in the video was the 2 primary newscasters summarizing the disease as having been caused by the tick bite but there was no mention of any other causes. Unfortunately, it left the audience thinking that this was the only cause of crps/rsd.

But it's a start.
