Weekly Check-In April 8-14, 2007

Hi Everyone..Not a whole lot to report this week, as far as anything new anyway..I got my boat in the water this week and have been busy all week building some fish traps, and buying supplies to build them..Its kinda tedious work, but its good to get outside and get busy

My cat is doing ok..She had a vet appointment this week, and her blood sugar was still high, so the Dr upped the insulin 2 more units per day..Shes been eating well, and is alert, so that is good

Im down to the last few pages of MJF's book "Lucky Man", where he talks about finally going public with his illness, and eavsdropping on a certain chatroom..;) ;) ..It is a great read for sure..especially if you have pd

Ive been taking DM for about 2 months now, and continue to experience a reprieve from some of my symptoms..My level of fatigue as of late is not as bad as it had been..Ive been finding that dozing off for about 45 minutes every afternoon on the couch while watching tv is enough to get me through the rest of the day, and that is an improvement considering my level of physical activity presently..If I take a 1-2 hour nap its even better..I see my neuro on Wednesday..It should be intersting, and I still havent decided what if anything I am going to say about the DM..I'll figure that out when I get there I guess

How was your week?

Poor kitty...I assume you are giving your injections...hard on both of you!! Takes a while to get it right...the glucose level that is. The biggest problem I have with my son's cat is that he sheds his very long white fur...like this!!

It is so Spring-like outside these past few days...as will be the next few days...the temp didn't get above 40 today. It will snow for the next three days at my NYS daughter's house, and we have had flurries since Thursday.

Spent 48 hours, yesterday and today, with my three grands (5, 6 and 9) so mom and dad could go into Philly for an anniversary weekend. Oh my gosh! Why do we grandparents do these things to ourselves. I do enjoy it, even though by the second day I am not worth a toot and getting up off the sofa is a laborous task, as is getting up off the floor after helping to sort 100s of Legos :thud: And, I don't sit down more than 10 min a hour...so, begs the question, why bother to sit down at all

Had my followup CT scan of my neck lymph nodes this past week to compare the Jan 8th scan. Crossing my fingers it is clear, or the next step is an oncology surgeon opinion in Hershey :(

Going through the process of attempting to qualify for the Ceregene Phase II trial.

Volunteered for a board position with a local organization...hope I, and they, don't regret it!!

My son leaves for Iraq in the next four days. Some of his personal belongings will arrive tomorrow.

Hoping your Spring is springing!

Steve, good luck to you and your kitty. Our new "Mr. Kitty" seems to be fitting right in. Somehow we lucked out (?) and got another 'talking cat' . He lets us know what he thinks of just about everything. (this is ok except when i get up at 0400 and he thinks my husband should be up as well ... meow meow meow - and yes, he shuts up once everyone is up!)

Carolyn - you will be in my thoughts & prayers: son in Iraq, lymph nodes, & possible clinical trial! Best wishes on all fronts.

Hi Everyone,
Steve glad to here your cat is doing better. We've got a black lab mix that has got a taste for cats. He is fenced in now but I still find the occasional cat laying in the yard where they used up thier 9 lives tempting fate.

I've been trying to get my art show/auction off the ground. It's been one thing after another. Now for some reason our permitt is being held up. I'm about ready to go postal on someone. I hope everyone doesn't have to go through this. If so, I'm amazed there are ever any events out there.

As for my PD symptoms, its shakin', quakin', and stumblin' as usual. The good thing is I haven't had a fall in almost 6 months now. We reduced the amount of Sinemet I'm taking and adjusted the timing of it. I don't know why but it's working.

Take care,

GregD

Hi Steve

I'll lend you this one.

Is this how Hillary plans to bring about peace?

I was thinking..I hope nobody takes offense to my humor, because most of it is political..But politicians are always the best targets, and it doesnt matter what party they are affliated with..Besides..Half of Hollywood is in rehab..They all have their bonehead moments..I thought maybe the one I posted last week was a little over the top..but when I saw Rove hip hoppin' and rappin' on the news last week, especially with the dark cloud following him around lately..I just couldnt let that one slip by..:D

Back to Personal News

Hi Carolyn, Paula, Steve and anyone I shamefully missed,

We had a wonderful Easter. Went to services in the morning and spent remainder of the day with my husbands family.

My father had his second cancer surgery. He is now missing the top lobe of each of his lungs. He also had jaw cancer and had part of his jaw removed. He has a younger brother who has had colon cancer, prostrate cancer, and is now on chemotherapy.

My husband had his gull bladder removed recently and is doing much better now, though he is exhausted from lack of sleep as he took on the responsibility for the Burnsville High School drum line as coach. They finally finished the season the same weekend (palm Sunday) that I finished my last show of "Evita."

This week I was given a fasting test which showed I have high cholestral (253), however I have a very high amount of DHL (65) and low blood pressure. My heart rythym is showing signs of fluctuating but not enough to require a pacemaker. My blood glucose has put me in the pre-diabetic stage. The doctor is giving me Zodor to try to bring down my cholestral count. I am supposed to try to lower my weight and eat less fatty foods. The problem is because I have such a high count of good cholestral, she knows there is little about my diet or lifestyle that I can change.

Hope everyone had family about them for the Easter celebrations.

Vicky

This week

Well the weather here in the UK is fantastic, hotter than Spain last week.
The grass is growing very fast and I will have to get the tractor out today.
I have bought a vibration machine, a very cheap one from Power Maxx ($300). The Power Plate machine is around $5,000. I don't know if it is helping too much yet, but I took the dog a 2 mile walk the other day, before I took my morning meds. One problem is I am getting terrible dyskinesia when I take my meds now. Yet I am taking only 300mg or less of levodopa per day.
We only have 4 weeks left before we go to Crete, a Greek Island in the Mediterranean for 2 weeks. I bought the holiday at the charity auction for PD research that I organised last November. However, I won't be able to enjoy a swim anymore. I have found that I have not enough power to stay afloat. There was a letter in our PD magazine which described exactly what I experience when I try to swim.

Good morning all:

Well the weather here has been as strange as anywhere else. We had record rainfall in March with lots of snow in the mountains. That means flooding and possibly serious mudslides in the spring (oh ya, thats where we are now) April 1 we had snow!!! Gobal warming? not terribly warm as far as I can tell. My hair has been curly like bedsprings which means there is a high humidity level in the air.....(and I look like I have a bad perm!). What is it about this check in thread that compels us to give weather reports anyway? Just a rhetorical question...no need to respond.

Steve, do you still go out fishing by yourself on your boat? Is that a good idea? I find I venture out less and less. I don't care for crowds and traffic. Even when I'm the passanger. Lately I have this urge to pack up and move to the country. Unfortunatley I'm tied to the city by one child still in school, new grandsons and the medical establishment.

I just glanced up and looked at the giant fir tree in our neighbours back yard...it is what Winnie the Pooh would call a "blustery day" All is well here, or at least as well as can be expected. Wishing you all a great week (well at least a tolerable one) cheers for now.

greetings all, we had snow flurries for Easter sunday. spent the weekend eating too much and watching that stimulating game--golf--on television (both our boys come over to watch many golf tournaments with their dad, so even though i find it is much like watching grass grow (sorry to all you golfers), I love the company
--carolyn, you are in my thoughts and prayers, as is your son. and you are still volunteering! you make me ashamed of my uninvolvement and lack of motivation. madelyn
