How fun is this?? "Stranger Dinners"
Ok sure, it's possibly unsafe. And perhaps crazy to consider. But something in this strikes me as utterly cool....

With the Stranger Dinners, I seek to bridge the gap between personal and impersonal, between the mass communication and face to face interaction. I want to bring what is good about the internet and relocate it from the ephemeral everywhere and nowhere plane and bring it closer. I want to create the opportunity for people to find something they might not think to look for. Most of all, I want to keep myself open to the physical world around me, and all the people who live there. I want us to act as though we have the world in common. If we’re all in this together, we’ll have all the support we need to get us through. |
I double dog dare Ari to go into Wal-Mart and issue dinner invitations, Especially to obviously thong wearing people or goggle-eyed people. Or those nice people on the street (though often smelling of Urine or unwashed clothes), obviously homeless and in need of vegetarian food. Or.........
Me? I spent my free energy tutoring homeless in neutral spots like churches. Many I would NOT invite for dinner. Some were really nice, some were really awful (not unlike some "upper class" people I knew who I wouldn't invite over either. Pick and choose. Hey, bartenders are great to tell everything to. Neutral, limited exposure, never to be seen outside of bar usually, "communication" part of job... |
