Vitamin D: very important for MGers!
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22672742
We've talked about Vitamin D here before. This study shows that myasthenia patients tend to be deficient in Vitamin D, and that they have significantly less fatigue after bringing their levels up. Abby |
Very interesting! The same can be said for us with MS. I take 5000iu daily. My neuro says that's too much but that it doesn't hurt either.
|
So True! I take 2000iu daily because my reading was in the single digits! Now that it's back up, I do feel a difference :)
|
I have the same issue. I recently had the blood work done to check my levels. I was put on 50,000 iu once a week to see if it helps bring me back up. I hope it is working. I also started taking otc vitamin D with calcium. I would go outside more but I was recently diagnosed with lupus so that is a no go. :o

Just a reminder...
RX version of vit D is D2. It is not very effective, and you may waste precious time learning that. It is an old product going back over 40 yrs. Long before the new D3 research of today. D3 OTC is what people should be taking. 1000IU D3 for every 10 pts needed to raise. The D thread here: http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/thread92116.html |
Thank you for the info, very interesting. Will have to try supplementing and see if it makes a difference.
|
Thanks so much, Mrs. D. I was looking for that thread, and trying to remember what you'd said about D2 and D3, and couldn't find it. I appreciate your listening in and helping out.

I always thought I felt better after taking my Vitamin D (50,000 1x a week). I thought maybe it was just all in my head lol :winky: I always felt less fatigue and tired though once it kicked in.

I've been told to take vit D, 2,000, but when I do, I get all kinds of unpleasant muscle aches, and it bothers my stomach. sigh. only me.
trying to get a lower dose, but I don't drive, so I don't do our shopping, and he who does, doesn't have a whole lot of memory or judgement for stuff like this, so so far, no go. but shouldn't getting enough sun to burn half my back, shoulders, and arms to a brilliant red have done me some good? (dumb dumb dumb move on my part, but maybe there's an up side?) |
