Neurontin Issues

Good Afternoon,

Back in 1996, I was diagnosed with hereditary migraines, received from my mother side of the family from the neurologist I was currently under the care of at that time.

He had prescribed a couple of different treatments for me, but ended up giving me a daily medication of Neurontin. I of course did the gradual increase of the medication each time having him run his check-ups on me, slowly increasing the medication to what I been taking recently.

After 10-11 years of this medication, I ended up taking 3600mg per day (600mg 2 pills 3x a day). I recently moved out of state from where this doctor is located and it was stated, for the best, that I be “weaned” off this medication since, as he put it “long over due”, for me to be removed from it.

He put me on a regiment of dropping 300 mg every 4 days to where I am now, none.

My last 300mg pill was on this past Friday and since then, I have no slept more than 15 min per attempt, I have had sweats, irritability, the whole blown withdrawals that I been reading on different sites on this topic.

I noted all the stories and the effects, which differ per person, about getting off this medication. Now since I have been taking this medication for such a long period of time, and the “weaning process is now over”, how much longer can I expect these symptoms to persist and is there any OTC items that I can purchase to aid in quieting down these “symptoms” so I can finally be rid of them for good.

It sounds like you are going through withdrawal to me too. When I had the stomach bug before I missed 2 doses and I experienced the same symptoms you are describing right now, as well as feeling depressed (I had never been depressed). This medication is used as a mood stabilizer if I recall correctly. I am not suprised that you dealt with the irritability.
How are you doing now? I feel so bad for you!

Neurontin

the main things you need to watch out for is weight gain and cavities . Here is a good list of side effects . I gained 60 lbs with Neurontin so got off it along with 10 cavities in 6 months , which my dr. and dentist confirm that Neurontin causes cavities . Ask your dr. for something else .

Neurontin issues......................

The fastest way to get it out of your system,is to take Niacin,it's an OTC vitamin section pills. It sounds like withdrawals, you just have to ride out the withdrawals! I was on Neurontin for a little while for my Bi-Polar,and it made me restless,to where I couldn't stand still,so I took myself off of it! But Niacin makes your skin burn a little because all the toxins are coming out your pores of your skin, and in no way do you mix Niacin with alcohol,it will burn so bad, cause the alcohol will come out your pores too,and leave red blotches all over your body. My brother thought it would be funny to take me to a party along time ago while I was taking niacin, and not tell me about the alcohol, and boy was I the life of the party, running back and forth from the cold shower, with my clothes on!

meds

You came off the drug way too quick. Niacin causes a burning sensation because it is a potent vasodilator and your blood rushes to the surface of your skin. It is not a pleasant sensation, and won't do much for withdrawl.

That's Right!

Niacin won't do anything for withdrawals! BUT IT SURE DOES BURN LIKE HELL!

Hi
you did come off those drugs far to quickly, i have been on 1800 mgs daily for 8 yrs. you must have gone on them slowly to get to the dose you are now on.

Well at least now I know why I needed 6 crowns on my teeth while I was on Neurontin.
I started brushing my teeth overtime, because I could'nt figure out why they were rotting out. I was literally, a Crest kid, my Uncle is a Dentist, so I got all my check ups,and cleanings, and always brushed and flossed regularly. Then all the sudden while I was on Neurontin, after awhile, and other meds. my teeth just started rotting out like a crackhead! :Dunno:
Now I have lost half my top teeth, and need to get the rest pulled and get a denture plate on the top, and the bottom are not doing too well, but they are salvagable with a few fillings, and another one pulled! I can't believe the meds. did all that damage after all the hard work I put in to keeping them healthy! :Bang-Head:
I won't even show my teeth right now, until I get them fixed. :Blush2:
I wonder what other meds.kill your teeth, cause mine are still rotting out,and I still brush them regularly, and use Listerine, even though it burns like hell!:Hum:

After 3 months on neurontin did a slow taper or so I thought. I have been in absolute misery for 4 long months. Back pain, migraines, panic and anxiety, diahhreah, lost 23 lbs. and the horrible list goes on and on. I can find nothing on web by folks saying how long withdrawals last. Can you tell me your experience and how much Niacin to take. After 4 months I am still suffering. Neurontin is the most wicked med I have ever taken.
Thanks,
denisescott
