Anyone with RSD had Positive Outcome from CTS Surgery?

Has anyone who has CRPS/RSD had a positive outcome with Carpal Tunnel Syndrome surgery?

I am frightened by the risk of the surgery aggravating my hand RSD AND I am frightened of the rapid damage to my median nerve.

I have been told by a Hand Therapist that she thinks the CTS nerve compression is aggravating the RSD and preventing healing from progressing.

Any opinions? Or better yet, has anyone with RSD had a positive outcome from RSD surgery?

Many thanks for your thoughts

Has anyone suggested some sort of block pre op or during the CTS surgery to block the RSD from spreading? That's usually what is suggested if a surgery is required.

Do a search of this forum for blocks and I'm sure some info should come up.

Have you had any Low level laser therapy (also called cold laser or soft laser) for the CTS? It sure helped for my wrist pain, elbow pain & shoulder impingement. Chiropractors seem to use it more than PT places.

How severe are the symptoms you are having?
Hand /fingers numb constantly , intermittently, with use?

Can you avoiding activities that irritate the CTS so it might have more time to heal without surgery?

Do you have any shoulder, neck or elbow pain along with the CTS? tightness/discomfort/aches & pains?

If so you might read on our thoracic outlet syndrome forum for more info on that possibility.

Research Stellate Ganglion Blocks. You want someone to perform right before surgery. I suggest they don't do it blind. If the doc has you help pinpoint the best response you'll likely get a better response.

I had CTS performed prior to RSD onset, and have not had the cupitel tunnel surgery performed (sp?) and won't. In the scheme of things I don't believe it's worth the risk for me and several RSD docs and surgeons have agreed.

Get 2nd and 3rd opinions from RSD knowledgable docs. ;)
