What are (un)common symptoms while recovering from a Concussion.

Hello forum!

Forgive me if this has been answered a thousand times over, but the volume of posts is overwhelming, so i've allowed myself to post a new topic.

About 2 month ago (April 27th) i took a pretty bad spill on my bike, resulting in a number of bone fractures in my face + general molestation .. and, obviously, a concussion!

These days i'm doing quite alright, for which i am grateful, but a few things are still bugging me and what i would like to learn is whether or not these issues are fairly common. I should add that none of these issues are crippling as such. I'm also aware that the recovery time of a concussion has a broad range!

I have the usual suspects: light fatigue and concentration problems. A strange "not-really-a-headache" but more of a warm, tense kind of feeling in the back of my head - usually at the end of the day, or whenever i've had a long and demanding schedule ..

However, i also have a few symptoms that haven't popped up during my searches for pcs related info.

I *sometimes* have a strange buzzing sensation and some light jitter in my feet or hands - usually when i'm holding a limb in a non-idle position; same goes for my eyes if i pinch them. It's like i'm not capable of sending a steady "signal" to said limbs ..

I do have to eat and drink very regularly - almost at clockwork precision, or else i will suffer the consequences - this is a major change compared to my "stamina" before the injury.

Other random things will come and go after a few days; i've had minor issues with vision (depth-perception, response to bright or dark rooms), mild tinnitus, ect.

All in all i would imagine that the road to recovery would be a gradual reduction in symptoms, and not the addition of new ones, despite only lasting for a few days .. but i'm no expert on my condition, which is why i'm asking here.

I should mention that i've had an MR scan (after a light of suspicion of ms) and luckily nothing showed up. The neurologist mentioned that the above symptoms were "plausible", but i guess it would be wrong of her to specifically say "this is normal, this is not" since every concussion seems very individual.

Thank you for your time! :)

Best,
Rune / Denmark

Welcome to NeuroTalk. Wow, a molested face.

I still have scars and bone bumps on my face from my bike fall in 1965.

The twitching is not uncommon. It become more obvious for me when I am tired or have been under stress from trying to focus on a manual task.

The eating issue could be related to injury to your pituitary function. It can effect blood sugar and all of the hormones. You might benefit from getting your hormones tested. Include as many as you can Thyroid, stress/adrenal, sex hormones, etc.

Let us know how else we can help you. Lots of good people here.

My best to you.

Hello! Welcome! I just picked a couple symptoms you described that I also experience. I too, get the weird headaches, although mine occur in my left temple and they feel tingly like something is crawling around in there. (gross, I know but other words escape me right now!)

I also have noticed that if I don't eat like every 3 hours, I experience dizziness, shakiness, general out-of-it-going to pass out feeling. (I also used to be able to go all day without eating, and now, 3 hours pushes the envelope)

I hope that although I didn't have any advice, you at least find some comfort in knowing that others out there are going through similar...I am glad you found the forum. Mark is right, lots of great, helpful people out here!!!

Symptoms

I don't want to make this a super long post so I'll try to give the basics.

In April 2012 on the night shift working in a nursing home I got violently attacked by a patient. I received several blows to the head. It was said to me that I'm suffering with is what most hockey players endure. 3 months later I'm still in agony and seeing a massage therapist for whip lash to my neck. My employer has been awful to me this entire time.

Anyway, I have read over and over the symptoms you get for PCS and one of mine isn't recorded. I have terrible hand tremors so bad I can't grip things and I drop everything.

Anyone else have this?

I get some bizarre head discomfort often. Every morning I have a terrible itch under my scalp in different parts of my head. I scratch, it's relieved for a moment, but then returns. Also, I often have a strange feeling in my forehead. Like someone or something is pouring cold water under my skin. This feeling usually comes after bad headaches.

Those are my uncommon symptoms.

I have a "tic". All of a sudden part of my body will twitch for no reason. Sometimes it's like the whole body. It doesn't hurt, or cause any other problem that I'm aware of, and it only lasts for a second, it's just strange. I never even really noticed it until someone else pointed it out.

That kinda reminded me of the ol' brain freeze from eating ice cream type of headache... wonder if it's related. Constricting blood vessels, temperature regulation, that kinda stuff...

If this one has been mentioned I missed it. Often when I lay down to nap or sleep as I'm laying very still I feel a shaking or jiggling. Like someone else is in the bed jiggling their legs but many times I am alone. My husband travels for work.

It's clearly somewhere in me but I can't pinpoint where it comes from. It doesn't seem to be a muscle it's like deep within me the upper part of me.

After a bit it settles and I can sleep but can't sleep with the jiggling.
