Hello from an Ohio FA'er...

My name is Lisa and I'm a 43yr. old swf, wheelchair user of 12 years due to Friedreich's Ataxia.

I left Ohio with my then 9yr. old son in 1994 seeking a better climate as a wheeler and lived in the middle of the Ocala National Forest, Florida til I returned to Ohio just this past December making the trip alone and a 3 day ordeal, but I made it! Yes, I am a bit of a nut:eek: ..lol Seriously though, not knowing how much longer I will be able to drive with the progression of this disorder and knowing that it could possibly be my last road trip alone, I'm glad I did it!

My son is now a 21 yr. Marine Vet:( He had to fly back to California on 4/1st for follow up care, but he is doing very well and cannot wait to return back to Ohio to continue making future plans with his girlfriend of 4 years.:cool

I am currently still getting settled in my wheelchair accessible apartment and making many new friends who have also become a wonderful support team!

Lisa:)

Thanks for the welcome Darlene. I just now figured out how to make a quick reply here as this forum is a bit different than what I am use to, which leads me to another problem...When I posted my introduction, I included a url to internaf.org so people would know what Friedreich's Ataxia is and I also included a url to a news article featuring my son in which he explains how he was injured in Iraq, but neither url showed up. Any suggestions?

Lisa

hmmm...

not sure if links show up when using the quick reply.

if you use the reply to thread button you can add the url bu=y just typing inthe www...then the web addy. lol...don';t try and click on that. or you can use the
http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/im...createlink.gif
button.

if you still can't get it to show up, send me a PM and i can try and add it.

Thanks Curious...I have been searching for an active neuro site for a very long time and am very happy with what I've seen here so far! :) I just need some time figuring out how to navigate this site so I can become an active participant.

My trip here was uneventful other than being pulled over twice in 2 nights by the hwy patrol...lol They were very nice both times telling me the safest places to park and catch some much needed zzzz's, which is why they pulled me over...seems my driving is somewhat impaired when half asleep. I left Florida with only enough money for gas and to get a bite to eat now and then. No money for a motel so I slept in my van, which was not very comfortable so about 2 hours of sleep each night is all I got. No money for repairs if my van broke down either so I just simply hoped it wouldn't...lol It began vibrating something awful in Tennesee. I had no choice but to keep driving and hope I'd make it, which I did...had it looked at after I got here and was told it's the wheel bearings so it is resting til I get the money to have it repaired.

Lisa :)

Thanks again Curious...I just figured out what I was doing wrong and I made a post in the general forum with a link to the newspaper article regarding my son, the 21yr. old marine vet.

Lisa :)
