Spreading is really different for everyone. I had RSD in my right shoulder/ arm/ hand, and 14 months later it spread to my left shoulder/ arm/ hand. Then about 1 1/2 months later it spread to both of my feet/ legs. Two weeks later it spread to my back.

Spreading is different in everybody, and in some people it never does spread, where in others (me) it spreads and spreads (and fast too). The same thing with the time frame- it spreads fast in some people and slow in others. Also, why it spreads is different for people: some have another injury which causes a spread, and some people it spreads without... I know this sounds crazy, but my RSD spread to my feet/ legs after running (I had not ran in months, and I decided to get my heart rate going, so I ran 1/2 mile! A few hours later the RSD invaded my legs.).

I know how you are feeling. Lack of sleep is so rough! I was sleeping well on amitriptyline, but recently that isn't helping me sleep like it was... and I am not getting much sleep because of the pain all over my body.

((gentle hugs))

Are you on any medications yet?

I hope you are feeling at least somewhat better today. Let us know how you are doing.

Sorry to hear this :(

With my rsd, it initially started in my right foot but spread within a week to the shin (right below the knee). Then after about 5 months, it spread to my left foot and shin (same areas, still excluding the knee). Then it was also slowy spreading into my arms at that time but I fought through it the best I could because of fear of losing my mobility and independence. Since it was spreading very slowly into my arms, I could tolerate things easier at first. Then it hit me hard in both arms all of a sudden after about 2 months of fighting through it. Then I started therapy shortly after that and about a week or two after I started walking, I stopped crawling around on my knees and it spread to my right knee.

I guess the rate it spreads varies with each person. There is no clear rhyme or reason to it all. This evil RSD has a mind of its own.

Lack of sleep is a killer. On good nights, I sleep somewhat decent, but on the not so good nights, it takes me forever to fall asleep and I don't stay asleep very long. I still haven't found anything to really work. I used to try tylenol with codeine but that had no affect whatsoever.

Best of luck to you :grouphug:  :grouphug:

Nikki
