Opana ER

Has anyone tried Opana ER? My doctor want s me to switch from short acting pain meds to long acting and wrote for Oxycotin. Unfortunately my insurance has dropped coverage for Oxycotin. When I finally got back in to see him he put me on Opana ER. I'm having a hard time finding a pharmacy that carries it, plus everything I've read indicates it doesn't work very well. Has anyone had experience taking this med? Does it control pain as well?

Look into Kadian as well. ER work better, then you can add an IR back in at smaller doses to help when your pain escalates. Plain MSIR works well IMO, and is cheap. There is generic morphine extended release, but it doesn't release the meds as consistently-it's about 1/3 the cost though. It's best with ER to take every 12 hours.

Regarding Opana, I tried it at one point, and I think it made me feel more intoxicated than than I'm comfortable with, similar to how I respond to Oxy...

Sandy first sorry you are having a pain cycle right now. Hope you can find some reprieve. I was prescribed Oxycontin and I didn't have the money to pay for it. Its expensive as you know. But my Dr. helped me to get into a program called Purdue. This company determined that I was financially not able to pay for the meds and they have a free program So after sending in my income tax return I was able to get prescriptions for free. I get a prescription written out once a month and send it in with their form and they send me meds by fedex and I get it the next day. Its a Godsend for sure. The program reevaluates after a year to make sure you still qualify. I also know there are cards you can get for the pharmacy in which they too help with a precentage of the cost. I had to use this a couple times when my meds were low and that cost me 70.00 it was better than what I would have had to pay. Hope this info helps you all.
