Pool water too cold painful

i

Hello everyone. Had a few bad days. Saw that pool therapy can help. I got in my pool for two minutes today. Guess water was too cold because I started to get burning pain. Not that I don't have burning pain every day, but this was not just my limbs. My entire body and at the same time, I got the chills. Horrible!

I currently go to physical therapy three times a week. I barely make it twice a week cause I'm hurting too bad to drive. Was seeing a chiropractor, but that made the symptoms worse. My insurance company Aetna reccommended the PT and chiro because they don't cover Ketamine treatments. My insurance is changing August 1st to AmeriHealth. I have to call and see if they cover Ketamine treatments. Okay, I've been awake over 24 hours so going to :winky:bed. This is odd because I usually have chronic fatigue and sleep a lot. Feel free to give me any advice. Thank you.

I'm glad I found this site again. Have to put in my favorites so I don't forget how to find this great site. Gentle hugs to you all.

Sorry to hear about your reaction to the pool. I had similar issues. Is your pool heated? That's sort of key...but even then I had issues whenever I came OUT of the pool to the cooler air.

Do you think your insurance might cover at home physical therapy? I wasn't able to drive for many months last year and this worked out much better for me. If the driving is causing you additional pain (and cancelling out any benefits from therapy) then maybe it would be better to start with at home therapy and transition to outpatient therapy. Just a thought. I hope your new insurance will cover the treatments you need/want.

Take car and definitely keep in touch!

Warm water PT is what is recommended.

My local Easter Seals pool is heated to 98 degrees. It is indoor and actually feels a bit like a sauna... Many YMCA's have a 2nd pool that is warm for certain classes.

Even still, when my body temp is swinging crazily, it can feel too warm, or too cold.

I can generally tolerate swimming in HI, where the water is around 80 degrees.

What is the temperature of your pool?

Because of the heat on the east coast my pool is quite warm it is in the 80's, unless we had water. then uggg! so yes, you have to have hot or at least warm water.

Dawn, I agree with these guys too. Warm water around 90 degrees and up helps me too but anything colder hurts terribly! After my accident in 07 and had to have several knee surg because the patella was shattered. But ended doing water PT for several yrs because most of the land based PT wasn't even doable. RSD was diagnosed officially in early 2010 and am now in late stages, so the skin is icy cold now versus hot and get the beefy red discoloration but even feet turn dusky purple now! So, I ended up getting the SCS last yr. and thought maybe it would help some of the sensitivity because I can finally touch the knee a little more sometimes now. Tried to go in an outdoor swimming pool last month when it was 102 outside! Pool was about 85* and you're right, it stings like fire and the stabbing pain inside my knee was terrible. I also have terrible pain when I am too close to the air conditioning now as well. Why do grocery stores have to stay sooo cold!! If you weren't aware there is a petition on facebook to sign to have Aetna covering Ketamine infusions! Signed it! :) Did a trial infusion 2 mos ago and it knocked my pain out for 24 hrs! Doc said I had a good result! Planning to try the 3 day back to back infusions soon and hoping it works! I sure hope your new insurance will cover it for you too! Heather :)

Many pools are geared toward people with arthritis and heated to 86 degrees. I find this tolerable most days so long as I wrap my affected limb.

OH MY GOODNESS! Got in to pool a few days ago to clean it and forgot husband added water. Went into flare for 48 hours. UGH!
