Imipram? HELP

I was prescribed imipram on the 15 of this month, after my follow up visit to my neurologist.

It's a tricyclic antidepressant that is suppose to help with my headaches and help me sleep.

It did wonderful the first couple nights, I slept like a baby. It was AMAZING.

but now I'm a week in, (everyday it worked less and less), and now it doesn't even make me drowsy anymore. Just when things seemed to be getting better. They go back to the way they were.

Does anyone else have experience taking this drug? Or have the same proble?

sorry.

I didnt mean to put this under the bipolar forum, sorry.

That's OK. Your at the right place. I'm not familiar with imipram. I took Imipramine years ago if that is the same thing, and it didn't help. Hello. I'm Brokenfriend.

I hope that the doctor gives you a more up to date medication. Sometime it takes time to find the right medication. BF:hug::hug::hug:

Hi Ashby. I read some of your posts. I've felt like I'm going into some sort of black hole to. At that point do you feel fear coming out of nowhere when the sun goes down? If you have depression,,and racing thoughts when this happens, please tell this to your doctor, and he may be able to transfer you to the right kind of doctor. I'm sorry that you are going through this. I use to have horrible insomnia, and racing thoughts, and panic attacks in that black hole type of feeling. BF:hug::hug::hug:

Hi,

The Imipramine only helps with sleep for the first few nights. Do you feel kind of "foggy" the next morning from the medicine? Depending on the dose you are on, after about 4 weeks it can help with depression.

I do not know how it works for headaches. Ask your pharmacist or your neuro if it should be helping with headaches after seven days.

Im always pretty foggy in the mornings. No more than usual. Not as bad as I did when I use use to take melatonin though.

I was taking clonidine(sp?) to help me get some decent sleep, and help my brain heal from my injury. Now that I'm taking imipramine, I'm not taking it anymore, and now I'm not sleeping. And I don't have enough imipramine in my system to really help me yet either. I really hate taking any of these medicines. But I don't have a choice anymore.

What should I do?

Sorry that you are having this problem.
I take klonipin to sleep at night 1mg, it relaxes me enough to stop my brain so I can sleep. It is a tranquilizer and very effective for me. I used to take ambien and that did not work out. I don't feel groggy in the mornings.

Hi,

After a while you get past any concerns of taking the medications. I have been taking mine for twenty years. They have become part of what I do each day.

While you are waiting for the four plus weeks for the Imipramine to help with depression, your psychiatrist might give you something for sleep.

Klonopin helps me sleep.
Your psychiatrist has lots of options. Keep asking for help.

Hi Ashby - how are your headaches?

Hi Ashby

... and welcome. :)

Wondering how the headaches are, if you've seen improvemennt yet?

also I am unclear whether you are also suffering from depression? Apart from the type of drug - which is used for many conditions - i did not catch from your post that you were being medicated for depression.

My understanding was the imipramine was for 1. sleep, 2. headaches. period. is that right? I would like to understand.

Now for headache, i know that sometimes prevention meds take a while to work. so it may be too soon to say. i have migraine but if you have persistent headache due to TBI that is a different case.

if your doc did not give you a timeline for effectiveness and you see no benefit yet, i might call and
-- 1. let him know you've seen no change so far
-- 2. ask how long it takes to "kick in"

he might decide on the spot that it isn't the right med and give you something different.

do please come back and let us know how things are. i hope things get better soon.

(((hugs)))
