TV Show: "Perception" with Eric McCormack

Hi,

Have you seen the new crime show with Eric McCormick (guy from Will and Grace)? It is on TNT Monday nights. He plays a brilliant guy with schizophrenia symptoms (hallucinations, some paranoia. .. . ) who takes cases to help the FBI.

Overview of the show: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mDiGZ0DU1mU

I like the way that the writers handle this. I do not know if the show gets the details about schizophrenia right but the writers do show the main character as like-able.

Eric McCormack Plays Paranoid Shizophrenic Crime Solver In 'Perception' Premiere
Eric McCormack showed fans a whole different side of himself with the premiere of his new crime procedural "Perception" (Mon., 10 p.m. ET on TNT). McCormack plays Dr. Daniel Pierce, a brilliant scientist and professor who suffers from paranoid schizophrenia.

The show takes viewers inside Pierce's mind, including his hallucinations, so that they -- like him -- can't always be sure what is real. It's the unique twist this show is putting on the otherwise tried-and-true procedural format, and it will live or die based solely on McCormack's ability to sell the character.

He's certainly off to a solid start, with several critics saying he's the best thing about the show. The New York Daily News says of McCormack and the show, "Any shortcomings here are not his." They then go on to list several shortcomings.

"Maybe at a certain point it won't feel like all this is a little too gimmicky," their review said in its conclusion about the show. It's certainly a fun way to look at crime, with McCormack establishing the genesis of what could be a very compelling character to watch.

Another intriguing character is former-student-turned FBI agent Kate Moretti. Played by Rachel Leigh Cook, Moretti is impulsive, a little reckless, and perhaps just as unpredictable as Pierce; only in a completely different way.

Flipped through the channels between this show and the Olympics last night. I love shows that are unique to society, or like the movie Ghost.

I've seenit. I really didn't think I would like it. I'm not too sure the symptoms of schizophrenia are entirely accurate (like Mari mentioned), but the show is interesting and exciting.

:icon_mad:Hi,

I watched the second episode. It was awful -- included unsettling scenes in a mental hospital, three or four ridiculous diagnoses, a pdoc in a hospital from a 1960s horror show, a sad mother of the patient.

Eric M did a good job. The rest of the show is not strong enough to support his acting.
Even with all that it was b o r i n g -- the worst thing for a tv show.

Sometimes if a series is picked up for a second season, it can start to stretch and do a better job.

That is sad to hear, especially since his acting is powerful.
