inderal
Anyone taking Inderal 10mg two times a day? Please share your experience. Thank you!
|
I was prescribed Inderal when I saw the neurologist a couple of months after I had my concussion. It was 10 mg twice a day, but I was to start with only one pill at bedtime and then work up to twice a day after a week or so.
I didn't last on it for a week. The one pill made me too tired. I felt sick from it, and I stopped taking it. But I am VERY sensitive to meds. Inderal is a medicine that is usually given to heart patients to lower blood pressure (I think). In any case, I could not tolerate it and went off it. The neurologist tried 5 or 6 other meds before I told him that I did not want to try any more. I now go for acupuncture and take Chinese herbs. I do use something for headaches, but I was not able to tolerate the "preventative" meds. They had too many side effects. Shelly |
I have Inderal (propranolol) in the medicine cabinet. I only need it when I have a severe anxiety attack. I do not take it for maintenance.
I have taken it when I know I will be at risk of a anxiety trigger. Are you taking it? How often? |
I tried inderal and it brought my heart rate too low when I am at rest (about 40's). My heart rate is always low btw. My PCP said for some people with high BP and Post concussion headaches it did wonders. Unfortunately didn't work for me. But seems like it is a old medicine used for many conditions (high BP, anxiety, migraines etc.,) .
Cheers! |
thank you shelly, mark, and pcslife,
I have not started it yet, only received the prescription yesterday. I have not tried a migraine preventative in over a year, I couldn't handle any other ones that I tried. The headache has been overwhelming lately so I decided I might need to give something a try. Shelly, I am also sensitive to meds, I understand where you are coming from. What do you use for your headaches? Pcslife, I also have a low bp. I was worried about the low heart rate too.It must have been scary with your dizziness. My doctor wants me to try it for two weeks, I will try couple of pills but we'll see:) Thanks again. |
Postconcussion,
I sent you a request to be able to privately email, so I can tell you about what I use for headaches. But for starters, I do find Fioricet to be helpful for me when I have a headache. I also have found that acupuncture has made a difference in the headaches. I used to get migraines that lasted for a week, and when I couldn't take it anymore, I decided to try acupuncture.... Acupuncture is accepted, even by Western medicine, to be helpful for pain. And I have gone for acupuncture when I was getting a migraine and the acupuncturist was able to get rid of it. That said, it hasn't "cured me" of PCS symptoms. I still get headaches - but they don't last a week, thank God. I still get light-headed. I still get achy and horrible fatigue.... Etc. But there is a difference in the headaches, and my acupuncturist keeps trying different things. I am also taking a class in Mindfulness Meditation. I find that it helps you to be able to deal with things in a better way. There is nothing about religion in the class. The class is a diverse drop of people. Mindfulness is about being aware and being in the moment. The book that was recommended to us was Full Catastrophe Living by Jon Kabat-Zinn. I believe that we need to keep trying different things until we find the things that help us to manage our situations best. Shelly |
postconcussion,
My case is bizzare. My BP was little high (130/80) but my heart rate is always low. Now I take Verapamil(?) which keeps my BP in normal range without lowering my heart rate. Yes, my lightheadedness increased while I took Inderal and that is how I noticed my heart rate went very low. Only way to know it works or not is to try it out. Good that you on 10 mg and my doc. gave me 80 mg but I requested 10 mg XR to try at first which proved to be a good decision :) Good luck! Can you believe one have to be lucky for the medicine to work? :) Cheers! |
Hi.
I wanted to start the inderal today but after checking my bp is 91/58. I have always had low bp but it is usually a bit higher. it is usually elevated a bit when i go to the doctor's, he said I should be fine. Any suggestions? Also, can accupuncture lower bp? I am still woozy from a session yesterday. |
