back home

Hi! I'm back home from my TOS surgery. I had surgery for TOS a few days ago for arterial TOS. It turns out that my 1st rib was abnormal and muscle strands were wrapped around the artery. The surgeon made sure I had good blood flow before finishing.

It is just truly amazing the difference in how my arm feels. Yes, I am a little sore in the chest area but it's tolerable. He said now we have to watch for scar tissue to build (just part of the healing process) and then soften up.

It is great when you can feel the difference immediately after surgery (post-surgical pain aside)! AWESOME NEWS!!!:D

I completely agree. For me, because of the prior surgery on the other side, I was expecting to be in far more pain. I definitely couldn't lift my arm overhead on day 2 with the other side. I'm trying to be cautious and not overdue things but it's hard with young kids at home.

Was the surgery on your dominant hand side or the other? While my left side was worse symptomatically, I think it was able to heal faster post-surgery since I am right handed.

I'm actually ambidextrous and can use each arm equally well but I have a tendency to use this side more as my neck continues to deteriorate. So you can saw this is probably my dominant side. Right side (9 years post op) had significant nerve involvement (positive EMG/NCV, significant muscle atrophy, etc.). This side was primarily vascular and was continuing to deteriorate. I had significant stenosis of the artery. What's interesting is my first rib was abnormal both times but for different reasons.

We'll see how the next couple of weeks and months go. I know recovery is long and hard.
