NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - Supplements containing a compound in curry spice may help prevent diabetes in people at high risk, a small clinical trial suggests. Researchers found that over nine months, a daily dose of curcumin seemed to prevent new cases of diabetes among people with so-called prediabetes - abnormally high blood sugar levels that may progress to full-blown type 2 diabetes, which is linked to obesity. This actually fits very well with the findings of significant antioxidant/anti-inflammatory properties of a number of strong spices--pepper, garlic, oregano.

Now, if I can get my stomach to tolerate more of those . . .

Use Hing(asefetida) in place of garlic. It gives the flavor without the awful breath and no stomach upset. You can find it in India grocery stores.

Amen. A bad bout of IBS (misdiagnosed as Crohn's) put a damper on my putting a little spice in my life... :(:mad: And some (like Cayenne) that I used to thrive on now exacerbate my PN burning. (Yes, it was I who was responsible for hot sauce stocks plummeting in '08)
