Do you keep meds hidden or out in the open at home?

Hi,

I keep my meds on the kitchen table in a big clear plastic travel bag. This is the best way for me to keep track and be near the kitchen sink near water and such. The bag is clear because that is how I keep everything -- in clear bags, clear containers, . .

Today, the company guy came in to the house to talk to hubby about the roof. Hubby offered him some fresh coffee and they sat and talked at the kitchen table near my meds (I was sleeping).

I guess I am not embarrassed. Other people take meds. And the presence of meds explains the slightly disorganized home.
Still, it is not 100% optimal to have the meds on the kithcen table, EXCEPT that that plan works for me.

I keep mine under a table close to the couch. Were I sit.

Derrick's are kept in a kitchen cabinet. But we keep a week's worth
in a pill box. Sometimes we keep two pill boxs filled. They sit down
on the kitchen cabinet were Derrick can find them.

He choses were he wants them to sit.

My husband takes one medicine that is prescribed, I believe he keeps
it on the microwave side stand. Right next to the microwave.

The vitamins are all in another cabinet.

mine are in the bathroom in different places, on different shelves etc. vitamins and supplements are in one cabinet. night meds on one shelf in another cabinet by my tooth brush. my progesterone cream and face gel are on the counter in the bathroom and I have written on my gel cap "probiotic" as a visual reminder to take my probiotic last thing cause it is kept in the refrigerator. I take that 30 minutes or longer after my night meds.
what ever works!!!!!!I use a round plastic container that I set up the night before with my noon meds/vits and take that with me to take after lunch.
I have gotten really good about taking my geodon with meals this way and I don't eat breakfast. That may not be 12 hours apart but at least I am getting 2 doses consistantly.

Mine are hidden....
Some from me......not trusted that I won't OD.
(But they don't realize I have many other meds that would do the same)

The rest I have hidden because I
don't want easy access to anyone who may walk
into the house....My bedroom door has a lock on it.

Sigh.....

Linen closet

I keep all of mine in the linen closet. I have six week long organizers and every six weeks I load them up. It is hard for me to keep Meds and vitamins straight so the pill boxes really help. I can forget Meds so easily or get confused about what I have taken or not. I keep the weekly organizer in my bathroom.

My sister is a ziplock bag fan with all of hers!

I can't let anything nearby except, my thyroid, simvastin , lexapro, and vitamins/Omega 3, but not the Ativan, Valium, opiates. they are locked but accessible.
If the people accessing my home have a drug desire, it takes but a moment to create a doctor patient relationship problem for us.

Especially pain meds, they are in a locked safe. I will have a few days out, but tucked away out of site. My nephew has a severe drug addiction and broken into homes he knew there were meds including my daughters.

When I saw your post, I couldn't help but remember a woman I met and spoke to about ten years ago, who had a very sick husband. She said that she would keep all his meds inside a cabinet, because she didn't want him (or her perhaps) to be constantly reminded that he had a health problem. In this case, I think it had little, if anything to do with outsiders seeing the meds.

I have headaches and some other things (not BP) and I put my meds/vitamins in two week containers (one for day and one for night). So, I keep those containers out.

WE have a relative with bp illness and we organize her meds for her and keep them in the containers as well and give them to her every two weeks.

Come to think of it, we are not militant about it, but generally speaking...ever since I spoke to that woman years ago, we keep our med vials inside a cabinet or closet. Generally, I like the idea of not letting the house have that "air" that someone or folks have health problems. I'm not truly hiding anything, but I'm not putting it in my face daily either.

I so agree with DiMarie. Our daughter once asked us to provide a job to a friend of hers. We didn't know he had a drug problem. At the time, my husband had a pain issue and was prescribed pain meds. He had them in the drawer next to the bed. The guy stole them! It was a big wake up call. I think it is probably best to lock up (or at least hide) pain meds.
