The value of metformin and brain repair has been know for quite some time. I reported on it long ago. Even with this known value, there does not appear to be any forward movement in using metformin after a brain injury. There are some serious side effects of metformin. The most important for people with brain injuries is its tendency to cause a B-12 deficiency.

There is also similar research showing the value of progesterone in slowing or stopping the cascade of damage from a brain injury. Again, taking this knowledge and implementing a new brain injury protocol is long over-due.

My wife has Type 2 diabetes and has been taking Metformin for sometime. She was getting very tired, lethargic even after a very long sleep. We put it down to her diabetes.

It was only when looking into my own problems that we noticed the link with B-12 and metformin. After a few weeks taking B-12 supplements she is so much better. She had mentioned the tiredness to the family doctor and diabetic practitioner but they had never thought of mentioning it to her - grrr!
