ACDF post surgery
 

Hello all,

I had a single level ACDF yesterday the 31st of July. I had not choice I had a ruptured disc that had compressed my spinal cord to 4mm. I was not showing symptoms but I did have a lot of burning and pain in my right arm due to the pinched nerves at the c5-c6. The surgeon used the LDR ROI-C device and not the plate and screws. He also used stem cells and not a bone graph. I am just over 24 hours post op and I am back at home. I have a little pain but it is being controlled by the medicine fairly well. I am not in a collar and I have fairly good range of motion with my neck. All in all I feel great right now.

Does anyone have any advice on what to expect over the next few days and weeks. I have 30 days off of work so I should be able to have a proper recovery. Also does anyone else have any experience with the ROI-c device, I had not heard of it before my surgeon told me about it.

I'm not sure how many people here (let alone surgeons) have heard of it yet; it was just approved by the FDA in April. Info can be found via google.

Ya I was not able to find a lot about it. We will see how recovery goes. Today was a little worse than yesterday but doing ok.

Will do, I am sure everyone is interested in the new hardware. I was not aware that it was that new. I did some research but was unable to find anyone who had it before I went in. I will let you all know how the recovery is going

I am 10 days post-op ACDF with an artificial disc, cage, stem cells and 2 titanium screws
c5/c6. This is the first post I have found that mentions this type of "hardware". My recovery has been easier than I expected, particularly in terms of range of motion. Post op. appointment isn't for another month. Pain was in my right arm pre-op, now in my left arm, but sporadic. Throat issues are just about cleared up. Anxious to start PT but doc says not until I see him next month. The only odd thing is that I woke up last night with a severe headache Took about 2 hours to finally fall asleep. I was never able to find anything on the Internet about this new process so if anyone has any links I would very much appreciate it. Thank You

I did not have the disc replacement however I also did not have the titanium plate. I had my first post op appointment today and the doc said everything is healing as expected. I have a feeling that you are in the same boat that I was in where I feel great actually way better than before the surgery because I had severe pain in my left arm and sever spinal cord compression. So what I am struggling now is not doing more than I should. I have had a couple of days where I get those killer headaches, and I final realized that they happen when I do more than I should. So my only advice is allow your body to heal, there is more to heal than you are feeling. The doctor will release the restrictions depending on how your recovery is going. Keep us posted, I actually wanted the disc replacement not the fusion but I was not a candidate due to the amount of damage that I had. I will be interested in how your recover goes. Best of luck

Please please update on your recovery! I am 14 weeks post op, had surgery nov 15, 2102. I also have the ROI-C on c4/5. I had cadaver bone used on C5/6 12 years ago and tht recovery was great. This one however has been extremely rough. I woke up from surgery in extreme pain in the back of my neck, left arm was dead weight. A few days later, tht dead weight turned into awful pain across my shoulder, in my shoulder, and down my arm. Dr says MRI and X-rays look good. I'm scared its the device. I am better now than I was 8 weeks post op, but a fr cry from being out of pain. I still can't sit up very long. My neck just can't support my head. Praying you are better. Please post. I've been looking everywhere for someone ho had this device.
