MG and the sun

I had noticed i had averrsion to being in the sun, heat and now know heat intolerance is part of MG but has anyone else noticed that direct sunght actually hurts (like stinging, irritating skin)?

No it doesn't effect me that way. SLE can though - - do you get a pronounced red / purple rash - like patches on your exposed arms or legs?

What is SLE? I frequently get 'flush' I am always asked why are you so red? have you been in sun? sometimes even when not in sun, one of neuro students asked me that while I was in hospital but it seems to come and go within few moments. Not sure if that is what you mean by rash or if you mean a rash that lasts more than few minutes at a time.

SLE is systemic lupus erythematosus...and it comes in two varieties. One is discoid...skin only. The other form is systemic and can be far more serious than discoid.

google 'discoid sle pictures' and you can get a better idea.
There is a great deal of variation. My friend's daughter gets really red/purple arm rashes if exposed to sun for any length of time. She's under treatment for it - - it's another autoimmune - so no cure...but she has had good remission periods.

Some medications can cause sun sensitivity (not just MG meds) in people (not just MG patients).

Check with your Dr. or pharmacist.

Personally, I can't be in the heat at all (106 here today....), so "sun" isn't usually an issue :D

I can't be in the sun very long. I get what feels like prickly heat, but is very hard to see (tiny red dots). Its not a sunburn, though. I'm usually not out long enough to burn.
