Freshmanitis?

You know, when you read something and think you have it. In the last six years I have had 2 brain surgeries for aneurysms, 3 strokes and 4 seizures.

Lately I'm super tired in the afternoon, cannot deal with heat.

From the website:

Loss of balance: yes. I have reduced the number of falls

Muscle spasms: I do have an occasional charley horse in my legs

Numbness or abnormal sensation in any area: my hands go numb occasionally

Problems moving arms or legs: I can’t cross my right leg without lifting it with my hand

Problems walking: I can’t walk that far or stand too long

Problems with coordination and making small movements: yes

Tremor in one or more arms or legs: not really

Weakness in one or more arms or legs: my right side.

I do have diplopia on the periphery. I have been diagnosed with hemiplegia, diplopia, dysarthria and a couple other things. My latest MRI did not show a new bleed but I now have the “claw” on my right hand and cannot open it all the way. Good thing I’m left handed.

Could this just be stroke residue or something else? Discuss…

I do work out at a place that only works with stroke survivors.

SDFencer,

Wow, what a complicated history you have lived through! I wouldn't be surprised in the least that you had some symptoms from that.

I certainly don't know if you also have MS but it is not screaming at me either. OTOH, I do see why you think it is a possibility.

What does the neuro think?

I'm not sure either what it is but I do know that when I was in nursing school I worried I had everything that we were studying at the present time. I am not trying to say that is what you are doing because you seem to have a significant neurological history. But I know that I can read things into my symptoms

please see a good neuro! no one should have to suffer their way thru life. hang in there.

Oh, I have one. This must be why he asked me if we had ever done an LP. I reminded him he was the one who did it. Fortunately I scan all my records so I sent him the results. It was three years ago.

I've improved so much since last January. I could barely balance or do 2 minutes on the elliptical machine. Now I am up to 15. I've improved in other areas too. But I seem to be gradually getting weaker and more tired, etc.

The medical enigma continues. Do I complain enough for the condo in Del Boca Vista. (who knows where that's from?) I know I'm going to end up as a journal article. Hey! Good title for a book.

Although as my older brother pointed out. At a certain age your conversations are:
1) Who are your doctors?
2) What are your ailments?
3) What pills do you take?
4) Do you pee and poop ok?
5) Who died recently?

I should go fence but the temperature is 96 and the weather page says it feels like 99. Oh, I forgot that is a dry heat.

I really tend to go dormant in the afternoon due to the heat. I've only fenced once in the last 4 weeks and it showed. And a stupid headache every day.

Then the salle is not that air conditioned and you get all funky fencing.

It's a good thing the convention centers where tournaments are held are usually cold and wheelies fence early.

I mentioned my weather issues to my Neurologist the last time I was in and he said people with MS have trouble with temperature extremes. If you've read my posts you know I now have Freshmanitis since researching MS. I have an appoitment with another Dr. in his office in 2 weeks. Do you think I should fax him my concerns sooner?

Hi SD

Yeh, you know your body, fax your doctor. You have a heck of a history, don't take chances. I care. ginnie

Freshmanitis is easy to have with MS, since so many of it's symptoms are so alike with other Neuro logical problems.

We understand and empathize.

Feel better soon. 'Touche..
