EMG/Nerve results abnormal--what do they mean?
 

hey i was wondering if any one knows what these tests results mean ( i got them yesterday):

EMG/NCS findings: left peroneal CMAP amplitude is reduced (right normal) (numbers below), left peroneal F wave is absent, needle electrode examination demonstrates rare fasciculation in R EDB muscle

L Pereonal - EDB (amp mV)
Ankle - 1.3
FibHead - 1.3
Knee - 1.1

VEP results were "borderline, prolonged, but within normal limits" and multiple attempts were required with right eye...


any way i know that u guys are not doctors but maybe some have some experience with these studies... thanks SO much i go to a new doc tomorrow

yes but i pretty much restated it here

what you posted is the findings of the test. usually there is a conclusion as well.

Findings were as follows:

"bilateral sural and superficial peroneal sensory studies are normal"

" Left peroneal CMAP amplitude is reduced with temporal dispersion noted. the right peroneal motor study is normal. the left peroneal to tibialis anterior study is normal. Bilateral motor responses are normal."

"the left peroneal F wave is absent"

" The needle electrode examination demonstrates a rare fasciculation in the R EDB muscle. this is of unclear significance. the rest of the examination is normal"

Conclusion:

"this is an abnormal study. there is evidence of axonal loss, noted in the left peroneal nerve. there is temporal dispersion without conduction block and F wave impersistance. The findings may be related to focal injury to distal peroneal nerve. There are no other findings consistent with demylinating neuropathy."


went to a new neuro today who is having me do teh test again (tomorrow morning) to see if it comes back more normal....says that i could be fine just wondering what the "normal" results are and how far off my numbers were thanks!

im sorry i dont know what those values for the left peroneal nerve mean as far as how close you are to normal. they are adjusted for age and height. from that test it sounds like you have a mononeuropathy with axonal degeneration in the left peroneal nerve. The peroneal nerve is in the fibula area. do you have drop foot in that foot?

no foot drop, but i do trip....my neuro seems to think it is something which will go away....another emg tomorrow

the peroneal nerve controls the muscles that lift the foot

New emg today came back complete;y normal....what the heck? also had a QSART test to look for possible small fiber neuropathy. is this likey? thanks so much!

i was watching the graph during the QSART test and one of the lines stayed flat the entire test while the other three curved up and then eventually back down.....they also had number values which three of them went to 200's and teh one (flat one) stayed at like 20 the whole time....any ideas thanks!
