Neurontin
Hi! Okay, the Dr prescribed me Neurontin today. Has anyone else been on it? Has it been helpful? He also gave me Lorazepam and Flexeril, for my anxiety and muscle aches. I took all three this evening, and for the first time this week, I'm not hurting before bedtime. KNOCK ON WOOD. KNOCK ON WOOD. Even if it's a fluke, I am so very thankful for this break. Even if tomorrow comes worse, I'll be thankful.

Neurontin makes my feet and ankles swell. Not sure why. But Lyrica which is a similar medicine does the same thing but worse. Neither one of those medications seem to do anything for me either. Wishe it would've helped. I'd be taking it right now it did something for me. I think I'm one of the small percentage of people it doesn't do anything for.
Neurontin will make you sleepy, and so will Valium and Flexeril. Did all that knock you out this morning? Be careful with that, check with the pharmacist before taking all three at the same time I have lorazepam I don't like it, it's good for anxiety tho. I have Valium(diazepam) which works great right now for spasticity in my hands. Flexeril is good too. I have some I just don't use it. Pretty much the only thing I'm taking is the valium. I wish there were more medications for neurological pain. About all I can do is take medications for the aches and pains. |
Glad to hear the new Meds are working for you and may they continue to do so. Neurontin is like any other med...works for some but not for all.
 |
Has worked for me, mostly, but my issues are with repetive nerve reaction, not pain. Have had only one real side-effect, but my family has weird reactions to drugs...bleeding gums. Doc said to watch for bone pain, but only had mild bone pain in elbows.
Very true statement from SallyC: different results for different people; as we all know, different sypmtoms at different times. Hope you have an easier time with your symptoms & have a really relaxing weekend! :OuttaHere: |
Today was my first full day taking the medications.
Neurontin- 100mg 3x a day, Lorazepam 1mg, 3x a day. I took them both at 8 am. I felt great until about noon, and the nerve pain was so intense that my co-worker kept telling me to sit down. I was dragging my foot, tripping, and bumping into everything. Total mental fog. I run a cash register every since day and have used a register in every job I've had, and today I looked at ours and couldn't even figure out what to do with it. I zone out and forget thigns, it's insane!!! Is that an MS thing? |
It could be an MS thing but my bet is on the Neurontin. Your body has to get used to it and until it is used to it you may feel a little drunk. You didn't notice it last night because you went to bed. You may need to talk to your doctor or pharmacist on advice on how to take it at first.

That's a heck of a dose to be taking of both medications.
they both can make you sleepy, so taking them both at once might be a bit much. Might be a good idea to ask the pharmacist exactly how you should be taking them and if you should Split up the time between when you're taking both medications. I know when I took Neurontin it knocked me out for the day with the lowest dose. Hope you weren't driving When you were taking that |
Your body gets use to the neurontin...so they have to keep uping the dose to get the desired results. I am up to 600mg 4xday or 2400mg.
So 100mg 3xday is really a VERY small dose, you should adjust quickly. Good luck to you!! :) Oh, and I take Klonopin too. @Erin....does Lyrica has less side effects then the neurontin? |
lorazepam can make you sleepy. and, flexeril (a muscle relaxant) can also make you sleepy. you may need to get used to the doses for a few days.
you may also need to call your dr if this persists. i used to take neurontin but it wasn't working for me. i switched to lyrica and it's worked well. i hope the meds con't to help you. |
I'm one of those people that the Neurontin and Lyrica, Didn't help.
Both of them make me swell up with edema, and I'm not talking about An allergic reaction. Neurontin made my feet and ankles swell, and lyrica just made my entire body swell. After taking the Lyrica and having all that edema, I ended up getting my heart checked to make sure that I didn't have a problem from all the edema. Lyrica was so strong it made me feel stoned I couldn't handle being on it. It was too much. Neurontin was a little gentler to me but I didn't like it either. For me both medications didn't seem to work. Wish they did, I'd probably be taking some right now for my hands. |
