weaning off immuran?
I would like to know if anybody out there has been told to wean off Immuran? I have been told to drop 1 of my 3 that I take daily by my neurologist. Prior to this, I had weaned myself off medrol 8 mg daily but had to resume because my sever excema for which I take it flared up terribly. I told my neurologist I had to do this and he said" You must need the medrol worse than the Immuran? I was taken aback and he walked out of the room. After being off 1 pill a day of the Immuran for one week, I noticed that I was getting shorter of breath with exertion. I called the neurology office to tell him but he was out of town and another neurologist said he didn't think I would see a difference that fast. However, I am to call my neurologist this next Monday.. What do any of you think?

When I was taken off of Imuran it was because my lab work was not good. My neurologist advised me to stop the drug and did not taper me off of it. However, I wasn't on a real high dose.
How long have you been taking Imuran? Has it been effective with decreasing/eliminating your symptoms? Perhaps your doctor wants you to decrease slowly as a trial to see how you do off of the drug. I'm not sure about Imuran, but do know that very small decreases in my Prednisone dose have resulted in an increase in my symptoms. My neurologist doesn't seem to think that is unusual. I hope you're able to get some answers. Cate |
I think I proved that the Immuran was helping my breathing if nothing else. I saw my pulmonologist this last Wednesday and my O2 saturation had dropped from my normal and I was getting very short of breath just talking. He advised me to call my neurologist right then and he told me to go back on the 3 tablets a day. What a difference 1 pill makes! I already feel better today.
