Hey- I am Kate
In the last 8 years I have had a couple significant blows to my head. It began with spinal injuries incurred when stepping out of my truck on to a sheet of black ice.
I came to with my neck and occipital on my running boards. Since then, and living with Chronic pain, I have taken a few falls subsequently hitting my head. The worst of it was this past Christmas Eve. The powers that pay for my medicines and their infinite lack of wisdom (can you say Government?) decided to pull me off a medication I was taking for 4 years. Long story short, this was a bad move. Christmas eve, about 3:30 am I came to laying on my bathroom floor taking probably the most significant blow thus far- or it was the straw that broke the camels back. One concussion too many. I worked hard on myself for many years, and was in Physical therapy for the last 7 years. This year I am in Neurorehabilitation. It is brutal. All the issues I felt I resolved have resurfaced. Some are not reality based, they are fears- yet they freak me out. As I said, I have not had to deal with some of these things for many years, so for anxiety, ptsd, intrusive thoughts etc to come back now is very unsettling. I realize this is all part of coping with Post Concussion and TBI's in top of ptsd- yet it is very unsettling just the same. |
