Cysts or Tumors - how do they tell a difference

Hi again everyone, new developments for me after a doctors visit Thursday. This time they found cycts in my kidneys, of course from my previous post you know they are inside my spinal cord, plus tumors inside the spinal cord, and tumors in my feet, so my questions is: How do the doctors, or radiologist know the difference in cycts and tumors? anyone had both? Or heard why some people develope multiples of both?

One cannot go just by imaging, clinical findings, labs and history are important too! On imaging, edges are usually ill-defined in more aggressive lesions. Cysts are usually well-circumscribed and are brighter with certain MRI spin echo times. Biopsy is definitive. It is much more complicated than this but this is a simple start...

Thanks, the ones inside the spinal cord they do not wont to bother, or the tumors, but I guess a biopsy is in order for the ones in the kidneys...Thanks again for your help, I'll ask the doctor my next visit...Silver
