Post surgery

I had surgery with Dr Thompson on thursday am. Scalenectomy and right rib removed, dr said there was a lot of scar tissure on right. Then he did pec minor tenotomy on both sides. They say that I'm doing very well. Not much pain. I have more motion already. The first day after surgery was the hardest. Doing much better on day 3. Lots of tightness but I can move my right arm much further than before. I do have some tingling in the right arm. On day three today not much much less restriction. I can get up and move on my own. Still very sleepy. I'm on very little pan meds and feeling great!! I am sore but that will pass.

Fantastic news! It will just keep improving from here. Take it slow and don't over work yourself. Lauren

Thanks for the update! I've been thinking of you! It sounds like you're doing great. How wonderful that you already have more motion!
It's such a big surgery, and it makes sense that you're so tired. It sounds like you're doing a great job with navigating the recovery. I struggled some with each new step (being discharged from the hospital, being up and around more, walking slightly longer distances, etc.) - sometimes it just felt so exhausting. But I could feel my body adjusting. It's a tough balance because you don't want to stay too sedentary but you definitely don't want to overdo it. My body would usually tell me when I needed to back off. A combination of a half of a Percocet and a half of a muscle relaxer at night helped me quite a bit in my earlier recovery.
I had numbness in my affected arm - especially my forearm. Now at 9 weeks post-op, it's almost all gone. I still have some numbness around the surgical site, but that's not bothering me.
Great work and best wishes as you move forward!

Jess: Thanks for your update and your thread. My 16 yr old daughter is scheduled for surgery with Dr. Thompson this December. Any tips or advice?
