Brain-hand coordination . . . or not!

I have lately been noticing some disturbing trends when I am keyboarding. I do spend a lot of time writing on the computer, and lately it seems i am having to correct more and more of my mis-typing. I am not talking about misspelling or missing an occasional key. What I am experiencing is scary, as i have never had this occur before.

I am transposing letters, and even scrambling whole words at an increasing rate. It is almost as if my brain thinks I have already typed the first letter of a word when I haven't yet, or like my brain has queued up letters and lets me type them out of order. I am not dyslexic, unless that can be developed over time.

Another thing I see happening is adding in more letters to a word than it contains. I am not talking about double-hitting a letter now and then, but actually adding letters that do not belong. And conversely, I find myself leaving out letters too. I have to proof-read everything I type, even short responses to friends on FaceBook, or I would look like an idiot.

I have always been an excellent speller, and I have a strong grasp of using the correct word in the case of homonyms (their, there, they're) but lately I have found myself using them improperly too. Is this from reading too many things online where others do it, or is it from the same cause as my other issues? I don't know. For example, I never miss the second "o" in too, until recently. In fact, I am one of those people who could read with a red pen in my hand, because I see every mistake made by others. Except now I am making my own . . .

So I am wondering of this si a new symptoms of cognnitive sissues, of if I am just being tooo senstivie about my typing. I know I am experiencing troubles with word and name finding more every day, and also see myself struggling with manual dexterity . . . but the messiness of my typing is getting aggravating. it takes me forever rto go back and correct all my errors all the time. Even when I slow down my tuyping speed (and I am not speedy by any means) this problems till exists. Has anyone else ever expeirenced this or know of whether it is part of the cognitive interruption of MS?

I do that when I type as well. I almost always have to correct before I submit or go back and edit.

I think it's simple and most likely caused by MS, AGE or both. My mind just doesn't multi-task well anymore .:( Like, thinking of one thing and doing another. When we are young and healthy, multi-tasking is a way of life.:D

What were we talking about?

I switch my letters. Like if I am going to write the word 'the', it would be hte. But like you I do it a lot. And I used to have a general spell check on my computer and now I do't have one or at least I don't know that I do. There are some words that I avoid using because I can't think of the spelling anymore where if I had spell check i would. Like the word 'unfortunately' I normally can't get. But I think this time I did!!!!!! Yeah. I think I need some ice cream to celebrate.:)

Hi there

I teach typing and word processing - and yes, I find I have to correct things more and more (transposition of letters etc).

Doydie, as far as spell check goes, if you can't find it on a microsoft machine, try pressing F7 when you have finished typing a document (wich activates the spelling and grammar checker - but only works in Microsoft programs).

Like you, I used to be a great speller, have excellent grammar and was a gun typist. Now, I too have to proofread everything I do. At least I can still recognise when I have screwed up - I just have to make sure I catch it before I put it out to the whole world.

Cheers

Lyn

Whew . . . I thought it was just me! I know I can still carry on a decent conversation online, and I actually belong to a debate forum to keep my skills sharp . . . but this thought/typing processing thing was really getting to me. Like everything else, I guess I have to slow down and pace myself.

Have done it here also. My DD was looking over my shoulder a few weeks ago, correcting me...she said, "you don't really want to send that do you?" I looked at the letter I was typing. All the words in the middle of most of the sentences were out of place. Before that, for the last few months, I had noticed that I was speaking out of order. We had just chalked it up to fatigue. The worst "mistypes" are the d-b, e-i or vowel combinations.

I've also noticed that it takes me forever to read a book. Used to read a few a week. Now, I'm lucky to read two a month. I either lose focus or don't comprehend after reading...and have to backtrack a few pages.

Have you noticed if it's a type of dyslexia? Anyone know what causes it? Any theories?

I do this also. Misspell the easiest words, forget letters and sometimes do a sentence that doesnt make sense. I have to proof read everything and I do alot of corrections. Nothing I spell looks right either. I spelled lucky one day and it just didnt look right  I cant read well either. My eyes dont focus well and my attention span is that of a fly. I have a hard time watching my favorite tv shows, cant stay focused. Aww, MS is such a "lovely" thing to have, isnt it! (you can hear sarcasm, right :) )

It's like the right brain doesn't know what the left brain is doing..:p:D

The READING thing . . . yes! I can hardly get through a magazine article anymore. I keep my art magazines in the bathroom and read them in bits. Books . . . I have many I hoped to but will never read. I have to reread pages all the time!
