weight lifting restrictions post thymectomy question

so for those of you who had the transsternal thymectomy, once you hit eight weeks post operation were you allowed to start lifting over ten lbs? I wasnt sure if it would be a slow build up or if by eight weeks they assume you are healed. Im trying to figure out if ill be able to lift my six month old when my husband goes away and that will be right at eight weeks. and she weighs 17 lbs! thanks a bunch.

Sounds about right.... but, if you give your thoracic surgeon's office a call, they'll be able to tell you for sure if you can step up to that. I'm sure they'd rather you call and ask then slip the bone.

I was told not to do any heavy lifting for 6 months after my Thymectomy. I pushed my car into the garage before that and ripped my internal stitches! I had to have physio on my chest for months afterwards.
I also found my baby too heavy to lift and so I fed him and changed him in his cot for fear of dropping him. My husband helped me with him when he was home from work. So please be careful for your own sake and for your baby's sake as well.
