I think I have neuropathy from a cocaine binge and I'm scared.
I had a cocaine relapse on 8/6/2012 and the whole left side of my body turned to pins and needles really bad. The pain went away the same day and I was fine until two weeks later. I started having pins and needles in my toes on the left side of my body. The pins and needles in my toes have gotten a little better, but now I feel it in my legs and the side of my back. I haven't eatin in two days because of stress and I'm scared. Is this a neuropathy?

Cocaine in high doses affects the cardiovascular system, and may lead to death.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cocaine_intoxication I'd see a doctor. You may have had a cerebral event, in the brain that affected the right side of the brain. Typical neuropathies are bilateral for the most part. When something happens in the brain it may be one sided only. TIAs are transient ischemic attacks that do this. Not eating will also give low blood sugars, which may affect the brain as well, and also the peripheral parts of the body. However that cause would not be one sided and would be instead more global. High doses less than lethal, can give sensations of prickling or similar to bugs crawling on the skin. Also cocaine suppresses appetite. I'd see a doctor if after 2 days you are having problems like this. |
This is really scary and trust me, I will never use cocaine again. I made an appointment with my neurologist and my doctor. I went to the hospital a couple days ago because of this and they did an MRI and I had no brain damage. I dont know, I'm really scared tho.

So does it sound like I have long term nerve damage?

Only time will tell for you.
MRIs only show frank organic changes. They do not show minute changes in blood flow. Angiograms of the brain, where a dye is injected into blood vessels will show blood flow abnormalities. Cocaine is a very dangerous recreational drug. Long term use can seriously damage the heart. http://heartdisease.about.com/lw/Hea...-the-Heart.htm If you need further opinions, I'd Google it and find sites that specialize in cocaine abuse, and its consequences. |
