Ear stopping up??
I know that this sounds weird, but when I get tired, especially when I am lecturing for several hours, my right ear stops up. My nose also stops up. My right eye will go all blurry and my voice will start to go out. I know that the eye and the voice is due to the MG and it happens less severely with the mestinon and it gets better pretty quickly with rest. The stopped up ear and nose also gets better with rest. I have assumed that the ear thing was allergy. I have even considered getting surgery for the nose. This is not just a little bit of a problem. The whole thing makes me sound like Hank Williams Jr. It makes me miserable. So is the whole thing possibly all MG related? I can go up a tiny bit on my mestinon dosage if that would help.

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/10782353 The nasal voice you describe is very typical of myasthenia and the result of weakness of the muscles of the palate. |

I stumbled upon this older article and wondered why we don´t hear so much about these fascinating procedures or the involvement of´ears´in general in MG...(also interested as I have fluctuating hyperacusis) jnnp.bmj.com/content/43/7/622.full.pdf |
Wow. I guess that I have been having MG symptoms for over 3 years then.
If I don't work, I won't have money for medical care. If I do work, it makes me sicker. I guess I'll just keep on keeping on. I wonder if my band members would mind giving up jazz and taking up country music................. |

I too am going quite deaf in my left ear. I am AchR positive and acetocholene is the primary neurotransmitter in the ear so I'm not surprised at all. |
My right ear is going bad. I think that we would make a good team.
My hearing is actually ok most of the time. This is something that comes and goes like the slurred speech. My students think that I am a major pot head............ |
Heh.. fortunately for me, I work IT... most of my correspondence is via written text. I make a point of making sure I'm on the left side of any group I'm walking or talking with. My hearing absolutely comes & goes with the mestinon dose though. I don't know if it is worth trying out a hearing aid where it is neuromuscular or not.

interesting/enlightening info
Thanks for the information! I too have issues with ears.

My issue is the feeling that my right ear is stopped up. I never associated it with the MG until it occurred to me that it only happens when I am fatigued.
I have some hearing loss, but I sort of thought that it was due to an overdose of electric rock-n-roll. I haven't been tested or documented the hearing loss. I just know it is there. What types of ear problems do y'all have? |
I feel as if my ear gets stopped up, has water in it. For many years I ocassionally get a intensely sharp pain that makes me instantly freeze until it passes (usually last about a minute). Was happening about once every other month or so. A couple years ago I went to get ears checked and of course, was told everything was fine. I too thought, must have listened to my music too loud, headphones, etc.
