Blue tinted glasses

Ever the white rat here, I ordered up a pair of blue tinted glasses to see if they would help my growing issue with dyskinesia. First of all, they were cheap and arrived in record time. Secondly, you won't win any fashion awards wearing them... very Lucy In The Sky look.
I've only worn them a day and I'm not sure that they are helping the Dysk but, I have been having nasty vision issues that I attribute to my PD. I get blurring around the outer edges of my vision and severe flaring from headlights or the sun. I can tell you that these glasses fixed the flares immediately and generally seemed to sooth my eyes particularly when driving. For that if for nothing else, I would consider the $14.99 I paid for them to be money very well spent. I will report back if I experience any other plusses.

Where did you buy them? Were they specifically advertised for PD related issues?

For those who don't know about the blue tinted lenses and the potential help they can give, go here.

Does anyone know the exact tint % or name of the specific shade of blue used? I asked my optician and he looked at me as though I had two purple horns growing out of my forehead.

Here's an interesting video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=OrcO2oRv75I
Here's where I ordered my glasses (I got the cheap ones) http://www.colorglasses.com

Here's a site with a good discussion about the glasses

Here's a post from someone who seems to have the "recipe" for coloring the lenses.
From: Virginia & David Herd <stormee@IX.NETCOM.COM>
Subject: BLUE GLASSES TECH INFO

I have been an Optician for 14 years. My dad was Diagnosed
with Parkinson's about a year ago. After seeing all the info
on Blue Glasses here, I decided to make up a pair for my Dad.
So here's the technical info your optician must use exactly
or the tint won't be the correct shade or intensity.

TINT -- BPI BLUE (2 bottles to 1 quart of water.
Must be freshly mixed!!! Tint even
2 days old will not give the appropriate
results!!)
LENSES-- CR39 PLASTIC (These are standard plastic lenses.
You cannot use those light weight
lenses -Hi Index or Polycarbonate
for this tint! They will not tint
properly.)
TIMING--2 HOURS (It will take right at 2 hours in the tint
solution for these to be dark enough to be
effective.) ***They will be DARK***
INTENSITY--50 % LIGHT TRANSMISSION (These would be classified
as sunglasses in the optical industry.
These degree of tint **#3 Blue** is
dark and may be too dark for individuals
with cataracts. Hopefully your optician
will be willing to work with you in
acheiving the intensity you need.)

The color that these will turn out to be will be quite shocking
to look at to the average person. But once you put them on they
are so soothing that you will wonder how you ever got by without
them.

Blue or indigo?

HI,

Did you order the blue or indigo (deeper blue) glasses?

Thx and keep us posted please!

Glasses

I wasn't too clear about exactly what color of blue to get so I ordered the regular blue (not the indigo) in the Pro Style for $14.95. I've got to say that these people really ship quickly and the quality of the glasses is pretty good. They do look really strange. I wonder what would happen if you tinted contact lenses?
The main thing I notice so far is that they really cut the light down and it seems like that makes everything a bit more peaceful.

neuro-ophthalmologist

If you haven't yet seen a NEURO-ophthalmologist, I would recommend it. Not only does PD mess with vision (the National Parkinson's Foundation has a great publication on this) but also some of the medications we are on add insult to injury. For instance, it never occurred to me that my increasing light sensitivity had anything to do with either, until I happened to discontinue my dopamine agonist (Requip). The sensitivity disappeared instantly and entirely and hasn't returned since. Coincidence, maybe but I don't think so. Narrow angle glaucoma is also something to watch out for...
