shooting pain

Hi i have just had that shooting pain right up to my elbow from my fingertip just through typing. It is like a electric shock type pain. Why the hell is this? up until the other day my trouble was burning pain in both hands mainly fingertips, pads if you like.Very sore to lift things even slight touch at times eg Washing hair, rubbing on bed covers etc. Also very sensitive to heat/cold im waiting to see a Neurologist on 21st sep cant come soon enough. surely my mishap wouldnt cause me all this? And i was worried about the contact dermatitis well thats not a patch on this what does it sound like to people more clued up than myself ?

Thanks g

Hi Gordie ~ What "mishap" are you talking about? Did you have an accident of some sort?

This sounds like some sort of radiculopathy from some injury, and I don't know what. Do you type alot? It could be a repetitive strain injury, or something like carpal tunnel. That CAN zap you all the way to your shoulder! I had carpal tunnel and my elbow was HORRIBLY painful !!! Once I had the release surgery, I was just fine.

But your neurosurgeon will have to figure it out I'm afraid. I'm just not sure about this. It could be altogether something else.

Let us know what happens after your appointment, ok? I'd REALLY like to know, ok? I'd appreciate it. God bless and take care. Hugs, Lee :)

Hi there.

It sounds like you did indeed injure yourself and you're experience some nerve damage. The neurologist will give you some tests to determine exactly what is going on.

Welcome to Neurotalk. and Please do keep us updated.

Thankyou for your reply Leesa, Melody yes i did have an accident but not a physical one as such. I got an industrial wood preservative on my hands which turned a bright red and stung my hands swelled up and small blisters on them the Dr suspected dermatitis at first but now thinks some kind of nerve damage Has been done.Today while i was out there was a slight cool breeze and my hands went red and white mottled colour very stingy. But at nights my hands feel like they are on fire and i feel pain in my fingertips at the slightest of pressure.
I really am lost with all this and feel exhausted all the time.

Thanks for listening Take care G
PS: I Will let you know what the Neurologist says x

Hi. I went on google and typed in Industrial Wood preservative on my hands accident and I got a link. You probably have seen this information before but just in case. It describes the various ills that can befall a person who has such an accident.

Here you go

I certainly hope you have a positive outcome after all of this.

Please take care of yourself.

Hello again we'll I have seen the neuroligist today for the first time and he wants to increase my gabapentin to start with then possibly the Amitriptoline . He thinks it is definitely nerve related. My reflexes were all tested and were fine my Bp was very high,He wants me to return for some nerve conduction tests. Now the bit that puzzles me is why did he send me straight for a chest X-ray? I was taken by surprise by that one that I never asked,I will ask my Gp at next visit.
I'm not looking forward to increasing the meds as they make me feel real crap but I will try anything to get some relief.

Take care G

A good doctor would do a chest x-ray in a puzzling condition.

Sometimes tumors in the lungs cause problems with nerves, before they cause coughing or other signs.

Hi geordie

Welcome to Neuro Talk. I bet you can't get to the neruologist fast enough. I know you must be real worried. So many different things can cause that kind of pain. Best to get that opinion, and then for sure another. Cervical injury, or some other injury can cause this raidiopathy. Leesa knows alot more than I do about it. I do wish you well, and please let us know how you do when you go to your appointment. You will find support here. ginnie

Hello I have been doing some research on the particular chemical I got on my hands.I found a COSHH report on it and among the risks Dermal contact can have is :Can affect the central nervous system now I don't know very much about nerves only they can cause severe pain but I don't like the sound of this.
Could this be why the Neuroligist sent me straight for a chest X-ray?
