Only thing for sure is foot drop
Hi my name is Ellen and I am a 58 ur old wife, mom and Grandma. I have been to 4 neurologists, a rheumatologist ,orthopedic, allergist, opthomlogist and have had 5 MRIs,a CAT scan, EEG, have a spinal tap and EMG coming up. I have had so much blood work drawn I am surprised if I have any left. They don't feel it is not MS but waiting for tap results. I think maybe fibromyalgia. But why the drop foot? I fell in April and hurt my lower leg but the foot problem only started in July. Is that possible?

Welcome to Neurotalk
Has a peripheral nerve problem from the injury been considered?
Foot drop doesn't only have to occur from central nervous system problems--a compressed nerve root in the lower spine, or an injury in one of the nerves lower down, from leg to foot, might also result in it. The nerve conduction study and EMG you have coming up might shed more light on that if done correctly and thoroughly. You might want to peruse our peripheral neuropathy forum: http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/forum20.html Also, this is a good article on nerve entrapment/compression sydromes of the lower extremities: http://emedicine.medscape.com/article/1234809-overview |

Foot drop
I had the orthopedist check my lumbar MRI
and he ruled out the nerve compression. As I mentioned I did have a bad fall on that lower leg. I am still being checked for MS and that too could be a reason for foot drop. The EMG will be helpful as well. I just don't understand it happening 3 months after the fall. Thanks for the help |
