Steroids
 

I once took a dose of Prednisone and experienced the worst migraine with aura, along with agonising pressure behind one eye. I felt so ill, I actually called an ambulance.

I really want to try a steroid again but really don't want to go back to Prednisone - does anyone out there take a different one? Why is Prednisone the steroid of choice?! Are there any other options?

I think methylprednisolone is used a lot in Europe. There is also solumedrol (IV). Also, it "may" have been a coincidence about the migraine and unfortunately, there's only one way to test that theory. :( In the end, I think pretty much all steroids will have the same potential side effects. This is probably something you need to discuss with your doctor, and if you do give it a go, have a plan in case of pain (like not starting the script on a Saturday! LOL)!

Does anybody know if dexamethasone is used in myesthenia gravis?

Edit: I just looked up a dexamethasone prescribing information thing. It warns that if it is used with acetylcholinesterase inhibitors (mestinon), it may make things worse.

Ugh, so sorry to hear that!!! Is this your first time on steroids?? are they giving it to you for the MG?


What are the "usual" bad side effects from steroids- i know bad sleeping etc.. but I have a bottle of prednisone sitting on my counter to take my first dose in the morning and I am NERVOUS.. throughout all of this I haven't tried taking any steroids.. so i'm hopeful - what if that was the missing link.. but what if it makes things worse and I regret it!!
