New Kindles!!
quick! hide my credit card!!!
I'm a gadget-a-holic, and I want the new Kindle Fire (specifically, the 7in 32gb Kindle Fire HD) I have enough cash money for the other Kindle that interests me (the Kindle Paperwhite, which has built-in fiber optic lights for night reading), but I'm restraining myself and resisting the temptation to buy that one so I can afford the Fire HD. My dad said that if we go to the grocery store this weekend, I can take his jar of change to the Coinstar machine and see how close we'd get to the other $125 that I need for the new Fire. (it's mostly quarters, and it's a fairly large jar, so I might get lucky) My dad wants me to wait for the reviews to come in before I order the new Fire. If he lets me Coinstar his change jar, and it gets me to the $249 (I have the first $125, I just need the other $125) I'd probably just order it then. Then I could give my mom my old first generation Kindle Fire, if she wants it when she starts recovering from the WNV (She now has a c-diff infection, hope they caught that in time! that's a bad secondary infection caused by all the antibiotics and steroids they had to give her to try to keep the WNV from damaging her brain) Hopefully my mom will get better and be able to use my first generation Fire...and hopefully the puppy my dad said he'd buy her if she gets better wont end up eating my electronics. (I'm dog shopping for potential dogs for her, trying to find a rescue that's well behaved and past the chewing stage and hopefully housebroken) |
Erin, I think it's time for a surprise intervention meeting..:D

Erin I would love to go to a yard sale of yours if you ever have one/

I found out they dont have text-to-speech on the new Kindles at all. So, they'll have to pry my two Kindles (the 2nd and 3rd generation Kindles) that have that ability out of my cold dead hands. (loved the TTS when I had optic neuritis last spring)
so, if I ever have a garage sale, my Kindles (the TTS enabled ones) wont be participating...unless I'm sitting there reading while people give me money for my other crap. My Kobo reader (the ereader that Borders was selling before they went out of business) will also have to be pried out of my cold dead hands. It doesnt do TTS, but that's where I keep the fan fiction I download off the internet, and it may or may not be where I keep books that have been acquired from friends that share books with me that I'm not sure where they originally got the books. I also read library books on that reader. I pretty much use all of my ereaders....just depends on which one is closest and has a charged battery when I need reading material. I want the new Kindle Fire HD because it's capabilities are what I expected/wanted when the original Kindle Fire was first released...and I was really disappointed that the original didnt have the memory that the new model has. |
Erin, I love my Nook, but my daughter got me a small tablet (which she has yet-2 wks-to finish programming-a bd present from April, lol).
I think I will still keep the Nook...can't say why, maybe because it was my first real "reader." You, chick, have a serious addiction, that I admire. Having said that, you probably need to consider donating them (the ones you can pry those dead fingers) to some worthy cause. It's win-win. You can get the tax break & someone who really, really needs it will be completely grateful to you. Or, you can keep them. Addictions are hard...have you seen the books I have in boxes (which I can no longer see to read) in my house? Well, can you?? LMAO!!:holysheep::Wave-Hello::Funny-Post::Grin-Nod: |
I get the gadget-a-holic-ism from my dad. He loves new electronic toys. I really think he bought me my ipad3 more for the reason that he'd get the ipad2 I had.
Claims he bought me the ipad3 so I could use the voice recognition software on it while my hands are all screwed up from MS-ish things....I think he did it because he really wanted my old ipad. |
