Alteration of mental state

Hi,

I would like if anybody has opinion about these symptoms. Some symptoms I got improved or gone for now, like headaches, sensitivity to noise, burining in face etc.

On the other side, I started having more prominent unsteady balance, but most concerning it seems to me my mental state is altered, occasionally I feel like different person prone to harm myself.... prominent is lack of emotions and feeling disconnected to the world, fear to go out etc.... No more my old self....

Is this 'normal' for PCS...

I talked to neuropsychiatrist, he gave me Valium and GABA.... it doesn't help much.

I also talked to few neurologists and must say I got different explanations. From anxiety to.....

These are normal symptoms of PCS. You need to be open and reach out for help if you have thoughts of harming yourself. There are meds to help this. Valium just works for anxiety. I suffered severe depression during recovery from previous concussions. I know the risks of dangerous thoughts.

You may try taking L-Tryptophan. It can help with the depression. Plus, the whole vitamin and supplement regimen can be a big help.

Hi Mark,

thank you for reply... I like reading your posts since they are more educational than advices from all doctors I met. I take some vitamins (B complex, methylcobalamin...), omega 3, brahmi which before PCS gave excellent results.... Even acupuncture at first helped... I may try L-Tryptohan..

However, some days there is significant mental confusion.... my first recovery looked like life came back in me....

But again all went wrong. Just small touch to my head make all worse..

Recently I read about condition named CTE, but I am told that it can not be the case with me, like I couldn't cause it with my hand, it is needed much more strength, so I was told.. I even read one your post about it so in one way it was also kind of answer.

Thank you and best wishes

You may have some injury and inflammation in your upper neck. Try icing your neck, especially when you have symptoms in your hand. Concussions often have a neck injury component. Even a simple twist of the neck long after a concussion can cause the injured neck to become inflamed where the old partially healed injury is.

Some gentle head/neck traction and light vertebral manipulation may help this resolve over time. Often, the stabilizing ligaments need to heal. This requires the injury/misalignment of the vertebra needs to be reduced so the ligaments can heal. It takes 6 weeks or more for ligaments to heal. Getting the ligaments to tighten properly is another issue.

This is impossible to image so the doctors say it is not a problem.

Once again thank you for reply. I will consider what you say, although I don't remember any neck issue, I never fell, but what you say may be true.

I must say I am not familiar with some terms you mentioned, maybe I could see chiropractor, I did it 2 months or so ago for my CIDP and I improved much... Maybe it would help.

Regarding altered mental state, I would say I can recognize some old stuff from my mind but but magnified at least 1000 times. My opinion is that brain injury, even mild, can make lot of mess and activate some other old psychiatric condition. Not necceserly.

Best wishes.
