Anyone ever here of Brainwave optimization?

Just curious if anyone ever looked into or tried electroencephalic mirroring? Recently just came in contact with someone who has a severe injury after a car accident and suffered fatigue and other issues as a result of a brain injury for years.

His experience was that after 12 treatments the fatigue, headaches and other issues have gone away and has felt great for 4 years now. Turns out that just recently someone established a business with the equipment not far from where I live. It's not cheap but I was going to do a bit of research to see if it's worth looking into. Don't seem to find much supporting evidence right now of first glance through the net.

I found 2 posts in the past here making reference to it and nothing since.

Looking to see if anyone has some interesting feedback, thoughts or experiences on the subject offering some updated info on those posts.

I don't know...just read a bit about it. Sounds a bit like a cult...

I am quite skeptical of these 'miracle cures'. I'd be interested to hear from anyone who's found it work for them though.

sr,

There are a variety of brainwave oriented modalities. Some are unsupported by research and other have long histories of benefit. Some have caused problems for the patient.

Many are promoted for medical conditions that are in violation of their FDA exemptions.

There can be placebo values to many as they help the person learn to relax but do little else.

Tell us more about the specific treatment/system and I can give you more information.

I did some research and found the brainwave optimization you mentioned.

It has very weak research. Each study had less than 10 subjects.

It looks like a lot more sell than sizzle.

Thanks Mark, I am still digging into it but I get the same impression. They are asking for a fee to sit in on a presentation at the clinic....always a catch.:)

Glad you noticed the profits over patient benefit business model. It is always a sign of 'beware' to me. The fee to see the office presentation is to get a financial commitment. Once people have invested money, they feel like they need to try the product to get value for their investment.

As I said, too sales oriented. The proper term is "Sell the sizzle, not the steak." I goofed up in my previous comment.

Brainwave Optimization worked on me

I was skeptical as well. But living with ptsd was far worse then losing money. I did the 7 in house sessions & now have to do 21 days in home treatment. Many of my symptoms have vanished & over half my depression meds have been removed. So very happy I did it.

Does this fall into the category of neurofeedback?

This was something I had looked into but I hit a dead end in availability locally and the price of what was available. I was also concerned that the treatment was being pitched at mass market brain improvement as part of wellness centres, and I was struggling to find doctors who were using the technique.

When it comes to reviewing and improving / repairing neuroconnections for brainwaves - if this is even possible - it's something I would like to know more about.

This is one of many forms of what are mislabeled neurofeedback.

Roshi, LENS, and others push stimuli into the brain. Some have a history of causing seizures and other 'side-effects.'

They obtain FDA exemption by claiming no risk of negative outcomes but the negative effects are just not reported.

I think PenK's relating of his experience with Brain Wave Optimization is grossly premature. The focus on learning relaxation skills alone can lead to improvements with PTSD. Nothing suggests it helps with PCS.

Don't spend the grocery money doing this.
