Am I doing everything I can be for my PCS?
Hey everyone! Basically I'm 16 years old, and I received a double concussion on April 22, 2012 and have been dealing with Post Concussion Syndrome ever since. I basically just want to know is there anything else that I could be doing to at least help with my symptoms? I go to 'vestibular rehabilitation' and go to a neuropyschologist for testing. Those are the only two specialist doctors I see other then my concussion doctor. I am also on a medication called 'Amantadine', I'm not sure on what it really is supposed to do but it seems to help a little bit at least. I also take vitamins B-12 and fish oil. Other then those things, are there any other things I can be doing to maybe help my recovery? Anything I should bring up to my doctor that has maybe helped you? Thanks guys!

B-12 and fish oil is the very minimum of nutritional help for your brain. You should add a good multivitamin like GNC Mega Women and a B-50 complex for all of the other B's. A magnesium or magnesium/calcium supplement is also good.
The Amantadine is for Parkinson's. There is no reason to take it for PCS. It is being prescribed 'off label' meaning for a condition that was not an approved medical condition. What have you done to quiet your life? Have you stopped all caffeine? Are you getting the quiet rest your brain needs? Tell us about your activities for an average day. |
