Got this odd letter from SS....
 

Hi Folks,

After 5 months of waiting for SSDI, I finally got a letter in the mail today but I'm a bit confuddled by it. The letter gave me a Temporary Password Request Code to use to access my account with SS.

I have not received any approval/denial letter in the mail yet and am wondering if this letter is a pre-cursor to an approval.

It says "If you are a new benficiary, please make sure you have received your award notice or your first payment before you try to register a password."

So, why send me this temporary password to log in and set my own password if I shouldn't do it before I have an approval or first date of award? Did I get this letter in the wrong order or something, and does it mean that I have or will be approved for SSDI?

Wondering if anyone else has had this happen to them and what it meant.

Sounds like to me you have been approved. I would wait for the "approval" letter before assigning yourself a password like the letter states.

As far as getting your password letter first remember.....
when dealing w/the government, "the right hand does not know what the left hand is doing." :D

If you elected direct deposit, check your bank account. It's possible your $$$$ (back pay?) has already been deposited.

same thing happened to me.

I got the letter about the password, and so I called SS.

They set me up then (over the phone) with direct deposit.

They would not verify I was approved, but would set me up with direct deposit. Go figure.

Thank you so much for the responses! I thought it meant that I was approved but I wasn't completely sure and I hate to get my hopes up and then have them dashed....that would not be a good thing.

I do get it, the government is a tad backwards....lol I'm going to sleep better tonight with the positive thoughts that I'll get the approval letter very soon. And yes, I will check out my bank account too!

Well, wouldn't you know, I got the determination letter in the mail today. Good ole government LOL.

I consider myself extremely lucky to have received my SSDI approval within 5 months of applying. I don't exactly know what was the deciding factor in their decision, but I'm sure as heck glad there was something there! I know I'm one of the lucky ones to have received it so quickly. I think a big part of it is because of my age....I'm 56, not to mention the grace of God.

As usual, the right hand may not tell the left hand what to do. In this case I would call your SSDI office, for clarification. I know about that walking on egg shells, and wanting to do it every step of it the right way. You can also write a letter, asking them for a simple explaination so that you can act accordingly. I do hope you receive benefits, and that it all turns out OK. ginnie

It's difficult enough to deal with the challenges of being disabled. The stress of dealing with ssdi approval and financial worry can make things even worse.....I'm glad that's behind you. Now you can concentrate on taking care of yourself.
