From consumeraffairs.com

It was only a matter of time before the broadening global pet food contamination scandal spread to human food. Now it has done so and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has opened a criminal investigation after reports that more than 100 hogs were given contaminated food and later wound up on dinner tables.

The hogs were slaughtered in California's Central Valley after eating feed that contained rice protein tainted with melamine, the industrial chemical that has sickened and killed dogs and cats around the world.

People who bought pork from the American Hog Farm in Ceres, Calif., between April 3 and April 18 are being advised not to eat the meat, although California health officials said there have been no reports of illness in either people or the hogs. Authorities are trying to track down all the purchasers.

 :Bang-Head: :Demonstration:

"Blue" products, including the "holistic" Spa Select that I have been giving my kitties along with their homemade food, has been recalled

according to a Blue spokesperson, American Nutrition "tampered" with their product and added rice protein from China without their permission:confused:

They claim that none of their products have tested +ve for melamine etc, but that they are pulling them anyway, as they consider the purity of their product to have been violated

just wanted to update this...........

I just got off the phone with Blue
the DRIED catfood is absolutely safe

they are voluntarily recalling all canned food not because there is any evidence of contamination but because they discovered that American Nutrition had been adding Chinese rice protein without the authority of the BLUE company
They therefore consider the canned food to have been "tampered with"

Now, I'm not completely understanding what my daughter told me, but she heard something strange on the news.

Someone somewhere decided well....they would buy a bunch of the tainted food and feed it to hogs heading for the market because they were going to, well, you know...not live.

I'll have to ask her more about that, I think I was really tired when she told me and didn't catch the whole story, but for good grief!!! Buy it and feed it to your hogs going to market for human consumption!!??? What next!

:thud:

Good lord, it's true.

Oh and lovely!!!! Also reported that some of the hogs are believed to have entered the food supply for humans.
