Google IE8 and windows XP
I use IE8 and my laptop has Windows XP; I have heard something about a mid-November crisis. I don't understand what it is about, if it affects me (and if so, what I should do).
If it helps: my laptop has Centrino duo Please advise this neophyte on what actions, if any, I should take. Thank you! |
Google is dropping support for IE8, not Microsoft. If you use many Google Apps it will affect you, otherwise not so much.
[Google is the first major online software maker to drop 2009's IE8 from a support list. Microsoft, for instance, has committed to supporting IE8 on Windows 7 until 2020.] [IE8 users, particularly those running Windows XP, can switch to another browser, including the most recent versions of Mozilla's Firefox, or Opera Software's Opera, to run Google Apps.] http://www.computerworld.com/s/artic...taxonomyId=125 ************************************************** ************************************************* If you have never tried any of the other browsers that are available , I suggest Firefox, it is so much quicker than IE. Very easy to install & free of course. You can keep IE and have other browsers also, just open the one you want to use. I have 3 browsers installed to choose from , but Firefox is always my main one. https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/ info pages- https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/ |
Thanks a million!!! (I was really hoping nobody would just tell me to go buy a new latop with money I didn't have:wink:).

Much is personal preference - I have installed & tried many, but I always come back to Firefox.
Comodo has some free browsers and many free security programs. Comodo Dragon browser is very similar to Chrome, only more secure they say. here's a page of their free software - http://www.comodo.com/home/free/free...key1sk2=Google |
Hello,
Downloaded Firefox today and its greatly improved, it beats Google chrome because there is no delay or failure in loading web pages and is faster than IE8. Easy to use help menu's. If you are stuck with dialup, I strongly Firefox for speed and user friendly |
I used to have Firefox and liked it but it was not very compatible with Norton and kind of a mess with dial up due to that. I also accidentally ended up with the Beta version which was not a good idea for the computer illiterate. I think I will get it again now that my Norton is gone, I just read that older versions of Chrome (which I have) are vulnerable to some Trojans...aaaggghhh.

Chromium is also a good browser
Faster than Firefox I've found. |
